Hi I'm Rachel

I'm a wife, stepmom and grandma. I'm a musician, a runner, a Returned Missionary. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I went from single to grandmother in five years. I married a wonderful man with four teenagers, and very quickly learned how deeply you can come to care for and love a family - the tears and hard times just make the joyful times that much sweeter, and deepen the relationships. I have way too many interests and hobbies - I keep trying to learn too many new things, and there is just not enough time to master them all! I have studied languages, of which Hebrew is my favorite, have gone on two Study Abroads to Israel, traveled through at least 14 countries, served a mission, run marathons, and raised horses and various other animals. I remodeled a fixer-upper house (when I was single), learning a whole lot of new construction skills in the process, and am developing skills in painting, crocheting, sewing, and canning and bottling. I work full time, teach piano, and have two part-time jobs. Mainly I love to spend time with our five grandchildren.

Why I am a Mormon

Jesus Christ is my anchor and my strength. I have seen so many miracles in my life. Heavenly Father answers my prayers, touches my heart as I read the scriptures, expands my capabilities far beyond my own, limited, mortal capabilities. Time and time again the Lord has helped me to accomplish things I could never have done on my own. More importantly, however, is the change inside my heart. The more I strive to live according to the things Jesus taught in the scriptures - to try to be more like Him, the more He softens my heart and I feel happy. Any time I have let my focus slip towards the things of the world, I find that I was unhappy and stressed, unable to handle everything the world threw at me. And every time I return to the Lord with a renewed desire to do better, He is always there, always patiently extending His hand. Quite simply, when I live the gospel of Jesus Christ, I am happy.

How I live my faith

My husband and I teach the 9-year-olds in Primary on Sundays, and absolutely love these boys and girls. We still have close relationships with the Nursery and Sunbeam children (Sunbeams are the 3-4 year olds just after they come out of Nursery) we taught last year - they love to drop by our house for popsicles and hugs. I also play the organ in church, am in charge of selecting the music for congregational singing and organizing musical numbers to perform in church. Additionally, my husband and I are in charge of the bi-annual activities for the Senior Saints - those who are 60+ years old. We serve them dinner and provide entertainment for a fun night out of socializing with their peers and friends. We have anywhere from 80-120 participants at each dinner. One of our great joys is serving in the Temple. To have that dedicated time each week to serve the Lord is a great blessing, and the Holy Spirit feels so close when I am there.
