Hi I'm Cheryl

I grew up in England, Spain and America. I am a mom, a grandma and a Mormon.

About Me

Married for 35 years, 4 adults children and 10 grandkids. I've been a community life mayor, a volunteer coordinator and have a BA/MA in English. I have two little dogs and a chinchilla. I love to read (anything and everything), discuss and research politics, crochet, knit and cross stitch. I also love to go to the gym! I have just started growing a garden and am really enjoying it. I am re-learning to cook. I have lived in England, Spain, Hawaii, California, Oregon, Maryland and Colorado. I have travel through most of Europe and would love to one day be able to visit Africa! If I could return to any one place and never leave, it would be Sunderland England!!!

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in the Church of England, but I have never believed in organized religion. As a "military brat" I traveled around and switched churches several times, but always the focus was on what the minister had to say, the rituals and the politics instead of the bible. Thus, by the time I was 18, I had decided the best thing I could do for myself was to just read my Bible every single day and live the way I felt Heavenly Father would wish me to live. When the missionaries first came to my door, we talked about my beliefs and their beliefs. I quickly realized that this Church, through their emphasis on doing my own reading, praying and asking for personal revelation to help me understand the words I read fell right in line with my beliefs. But then there was this kid who "wrote" the Book of Mormon. Could I believe that? Thus, I accepted a Book of Mormon and started reading. I was amazed at how many misconceptions I had about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Within a month I was baptized and so was my husband. I couldn't believe it. And since that day we have received so many blessing. I know this Church is true. I know Joseph Smith was a prophet and I know that Thomas S. Monson is our living prophet today. I know that God has always given us prophets to guide us and lead us. I know that Jesus Christ is the son of God and I know that when I die on this plane, I will return to be with my Heavenly Father and that families ARE eternal. Those I love here on Earth will be with me again when I cross the veil.

How I live my faith

I love reading my scriptures every day, and studying for Sunday school lessons and our adult study group on Wednesday nights! I have been called to teach the woman's organization, Relief Society, and receive so many blessing from the wonderful women I get to learn from while I am suppose to be teaching. I substitute for the Youth Sunday School when their teacher is unavailable and they are such an wonderful, caring, giving and remarkable group of youth who I can never get enough of! My favorite calling is being privileged to assist with the Church Welfare Program and help those who need assistance and helping to distribute food to those in want.

What are Mormon church services like? Are visitors allowed at church meetings? Can I attend church?

While this might seem like a lot, the time passes quickly. Everyone who talks is a member of the congregation, just like you or me. They are not specialist, or people who spend their time creating sermons. They are normal people who a giving a few minutes of their time to share the gospel with us. Show more Show less
