Hi I'm Matt Balls

I grew up in Phoenix, Arizona. I graduated in Geology and am attending Medical School. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love to hike, rock climb, camp, and bike. I am a rock collector. I like making crafts out of metal. I am married and have two beautiful little girls. I studied Geology at BYU-Idaho, and I started medical school two years ago at Midwestern University in Glendale, AZ. I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2011.

Why I am a Mormon

There is no explanation that answers our life here without a grand designer, even most scientists believe that our world is not here at random. All science that I have studied falls right in with the gospel and I find no conflict. I was born into this church but I am a very logical and scientifically minded man. In high school I did not have many Mormon friends either. I learned science and mathematics and was really good at it. But I also studied the scriptures. The more I read the more convinced I was that God was real and that science and religion were not enemies. I also had some really touching experiences, then and since, that made it impossible for me to deny that God was a loving heavenly Father. I have felt the Holy Spirit in my soul and would be a fool to say otherwise. I have come to rely on its guidance and I have never been led astray. I have lost my anxiety and gained self confidence in its place. And every time I come to something new and may have doubts, I remember all that has happened before. That is all it takes. And I am eternally grateful. I have no doubts that God calls prophets. He always has and He always will. I believe that He called Joseph Smith to be a prophet, and showed Himself to him. And I believe that through Joseph He brought Christ's Gospel back to a fulness. I know God is real. I believe that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is His church. I believe all who truly want to can find God, and I know that this was the best way for me to find Him.

How I live my faith

I live my faith every day. I visit members in their homes in times of need and even just to check on them. I volunteer in community service projects and in the scouting program. Right now I am the clerk for our congregation, and handle the records of the members and the funds of their tithes and offerings. None of us are paid, but we volunteer our time to help out. Me and my wife study the scriptures together and pray together. We pray with our daughters even though they are small, and we sing church songs to them as they fall to sleep. I try to be friendly and kind to everyone I meet. I try to come closer to God by praying nightly and talking to Him whenever I feel that I need Him.

Why are only some Mormons allowed into temples? Is there something secret going on in Mormon Temples? What goes on in Mormon Temples?

Matt Balls
All who want to can if they are willing to put in the time and effort. It's all about making more promises to God and Him to you. Any member who has been a member a year and is keeping God's commandments can go. There is no really big secret, sorry to disappoint. Marriages are preformed there, but not "till death do you part," but for now and forever. Just like being baptized, other ordinances are done. And, just like baptism, promises are made to keep more commandments. So people aren't just "let in" like some show, but you go to make more commitments. If you aren't ready for that then you don't go. Show more Show less
