Hi I'm River Rick

I was a whitewater rafting guide in Alaska. I am a husband, father, teacher, chaplain, coach, a PhD and I am a Mormon.

About Me

The family I grew up in was built on hard work and serious outdoor recreation. We worked hard but we played equally as hard. I do not recall ever staying in a hotel before I was 18 years old. We camped, we ran rivers, we skied on snow and water, we fished and rode horses, we built cabins and our house. We had horses, we spent our vacation time with family often visiting extended family. We did a little bit of everything. Because of my parents, my family and my Faith, I can . . . raise a child, teach at a University, replace a roof, lay concrete, remodel a house, train a horse, ski any terrain, guide a remote back country trip over land or river, train a dog, complete a waterski course, climb Mt Raineer, hitch hike across Alaska, visit a convalencent home, plant a tree, build a gogart, fix a car, repair appliances, change a diaper, build a straight fence over rocky ground, coach a team, cook a tasty healthy meal, publish a book and read hundreds more, dig a ditch, plow a field, preach a sermon, plant a garden, backpack across Europe, mend a fence, herd cows, hunt and fish, fly a plane, drive a bus, run an office, set a bone, treat a wound, be a first responder, seearch and rescue, put out a fire, run a race and Be A Friend.

Why I am a Mormon

I teach a University Course on Religions of the World and I have studied and searched for truth all of my life. I beleive in the literal resurrection of Jesus Christ and of all mankind born on the earth. I find my Faith in Christ on solid ground confirmed by a witness of the Holy Spirit in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

How I live my faith

In and through all I do.
