Hi I'm Heidi

I was born and raised in Utah. I am a musician, a singer, and a songwriter. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm studying to receive a Bachelor of Arts in Music at Brigham Young University-Idaho. I love to sing, play guitar, improvise on the piano, and write music. I've also recently discovered a love for blogging, which probably stems from my love of writing letters, stories, and poetry. I love basically anything artistically related: you name it, I probably have tried it, or want to.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born to parents who were actively involved in the Church. They both served full-time missions and were married in the temple. I grew up attending church activities and Sunday meetings, and was baptized when I turned eight. I don't feel like I ever doubted the truthfulness of the Church, as I have had a solid testimony of prayer from the time I knelt down in my Grandmother's backyard to pray for the Holy Ghost to help me find my favorite toy when I was three. As I have been taught and loved and encouraged to become better each day of my life, I have learned something: I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints because I love it. I love learning and growing. I love being able to let go of hurt and pain and anger and sadness. I love being able to have someone to turn to when others would say I'm alone. I love the feeling of joy and peace that comes when I feel the power and influence of the Holy Ghost. I love knowing in my heart that I have a Father in Heaven who loves me without reservation. I love that I can receive inspiration and guidance from the words of ancient prophets who were called by God to make a record that would preserve his teachings through the ages. Most of all I love knowing that I can overcome any challenge that I face because I believe in Christ, and I believe in his promise given in Ether 12:27: "And if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. I give unto men weakness that they may be humble; and my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them." I know in whom I have trusted. I love the source of my strength.

How I live my faith

The biggest way that I live my faith is by showing love. Love is the most powerful thing I have ever witnessed to cause change in my life, and in the lives of all those that it touches. One of the biggest treasures in my life came about as a result of simply saying "I love you" every time I dropped my brother off at school without expecting any response. After a while he started to say it back. After he became fairly consistent, when he'd slack off, I would, in good humor, loudly remind him through the open car window, " I SAID I LOVE YOU!" Which would result in a giant, slightly sheepish grin and an "I love you too." Loving, strengthening and encouraging my family is one of my biggest priorities because Satan doesn't like happy families and he is constantly trying to drag us down and tear us apart. The Plan of Salvation requires us to have families in order to receive the highest degree of glory. Families can be forever, but they won't magically become perfect. Through faithful action, cooperation, and love I know that my family can develop the kind of family relationships that God meant to be eternal.
