Hi I'm John

Grew up in Utah and California. I am a techology entreprenuer but enjoy history, cosmology and theology.

About Me

I was fortunate to get a good education including a degree in Economics and and MBA from top schools. But that did not conflict with my faith; rather I was proud to see that my values helped me do well. I have managed a number of companies and feel that the principles of the Gospel of Christ is a good foundation for company culture. My four children are grown and now I spend a lot of time on public service opportunities.

Why I am a Mormon

I am excited about a dynamic faith that recognizes and embraces truth wherever it is to be found. While much can be learned from the scriptures, the doctrine that everyone is entitled to revelation for their personal guideance and understanding is extremely appealing. Our belief that the eternities are a place of learning and progress is very compelling to me as I would get bored with nothing useful to do however nice the surroundings. Finally the notion that God's plan is based on love, agency, progress makes me feel close to our Father in Heaven and His son Jesus Christ. At our very core, we want to be loved and that is what God offers us both here and forever.

How I live my faith

I do public affairs work for my Stake. Much of that work involves organization major service projects such as blood drives, park improvements, school repairs and helping not for profit community groups. Serving others is to me the best outward evidence of our Christian committment. This work brings me into contact with people of many religions and creeds, and I have learned to appreciate that many of them are fantastic people who can teach me much about living a Christ-like life.

Why are Mormons asked to donate 10% of their income to their Church?

John
Ultimately we are to work in partnership with God to bring about the salvation and progress of other people. When we are partners, everything is held in common. Tithing is a teaching principle that prepares us for the day when we share everything with God so he can share everything with us. I think that is a good deal! Show more Show less
