Hi I'm Steven

I taught students at the Junior High, High School, Junior College and University level for a total of 40 years.

About Me

I taught students mathematics and coached high school boys basketball and softball. I have enjoyed playing and coaching a lot of sports (especially when my children were on teams), reading, hiking, playing games, and being with family and friends. I also enjoy being involved in civic activities, like Kiwanis, booster clubs, alumni associations, and serving in professional leadership and member activities. I have also held civic leadership positions. We have six children, 24 grandchildren and one great grand daughter. My wife, Vivian and I are Utah State University graduates, and five of our six children are also Aggies. Living in Texas I have become a Texas Rangers fan.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was 14 years old for 2 years since becoming active I had prayed every day to gain a testimony of this new church, without receiving an answer. When the Los Angeles California Temple was dedicated my father and I attended one of the sessions. The president and prophet of the Church, David O. McKay presided at the session. At the end of the session, it was announced that because of the Prophet's failing health he would not be able to shake hands with anyone nor stop to talk with them. We all stood and waited for him and the two men supporting him to walk down the aisle and exit the room. I was standing at the end of a row and watched as he and his assistants slowly walked by me. They got about 3 rows beyond me when they turned and walked back to me. President McKay was then standing in front of me. He reached out, took me by the hand, looked at me with those beautiful, penetrating, blue eyes and said "Young man, this is the place the Lord wants you to be." With those words resonating in my ears and mind, he turned and was escorted from the room. No one else was spoken to, but for some reason the Lord saw fit to have His prophet confirm to me that this church was true, that I was important enough to Him that he prompted a prophet to speak for Him. Many other times in my life I have had other spiritual confirmations to reconfirm my testimony of the Savior Jesus Christ and the fact that His church has been reestablished on the earth and that I am a member of that church.

How I live my faith

I have been an active member of the church since I was 12 years old. I have served in many capacities in the wards and stakes I have been a member of. I especially have enjoyed serving when youth are involved. At this time of my life I have enjoyed working in both the Dallas, Texas and Nauvoo, Illinois Temples. All of this has been very satisfying to me and has blessed my family.
