Hi I'm Nate

I'm a doctor, a marathon runner, a father and husband, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a husband and father of four wonderful children. I love playing with my kids, reading with them and seeing their eyes light up when learning new things. Being a parent is one of the most rewarding things I could do. I love to hike, run, waterski, play basketball and raquetball. I love being outdoors and enjoying the beauty of the earth and being active.

Why I am a Mormon

If you asked 12 different people on your street, what's the best way to cook a steak, you would probably get 12 completely different answers or permutations thereof. The same goes for the truth about God. If we ask men or women what is the truth about God, we may get somewhat similar but very different answers. I believe that's why there is so much confusion about religion and doctrine. We need to look to the source of knowledge and truth: God. As written in the Bible, James 1: 5, if we desire to know the truth, we should ask God, "that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him." God has given us a way for us to know for ourselves what is true. The formula is simple. If we sincerely desire to know the truth, we must pray and ask God. He will answer our prayer through the Holy Ghost. This manifestation is usually a strong and warm feeling that you feel in your heart and mind. Thus, we can know the truth for ourselves. I am not a Mormon because someone told me to be. I am not a Mormon because my parents were. I choose to be a member of this church because I know it is true and it is God' church on the earth. I know this because I asked God in sincere prayer if it was true. I know he answered my prayer. I felt the Spirit (Holy Ghost) so strongly in response to my inquiry that I knew it was true. I have felt that same confirmation countless times since then as I have studied and practiced the teachings of Christ and His church. I know it is true! If there ever was a time that mankind needed heaven's help, it would be now. God continues to call prophets in our day just as he did anciently. It is through prophets that God can give us specific counsel for our day. I am so thankful that God has provided us with a prophet and 12 apostles today, just as he did when he originally organized his church during his mortal ministry. The summary is: I am a Mormon because I know it's true and it's teachings help me and my family be happy!

How I live my faith

I love teaching my children the wonderful plan God has for his children. Each Monday night, we have a family home evening activity. We all come together as a family and have a short spiritual lesson, scripture or thought, followed by a fun activity and a treat. This allows us time to discuss the importance of spiritual things with our children and let them ask questions. It also reserves time each week for us to be together as a family and do fun things together. I believe that we should be our "brother's keeper". This church organizes ways for us to serve one another and help those in need. I have never seen so much kindess and sacrifice for others than I have seen in this church. We all contribute and serve as workers and leaders of our local congregations. I am so thankful to be a part of that. It has helped me grow as a person and helped me grow closer to my Savior. I believe serving others brings us happiness and draws us closer to God. God has given his children commandments or rules to live by. He gives these to us out of love and a desire for us to be happy in this life, and to allow us to return to live with him again after this life. By striving to live by these commandments, my life has been blessed with an inner peace and has been spared of some of the misery and heartache that can come when we choose to not follow God's counsel. I know that God blesses us when we keep his commandments. He loves us and wants us to be happy.
