Hi I'm Rik

I grew up in Central California, and when I graduated from high school in 1962 I moved to Salt Lake City.

About Me

After I graduated from high school as the oldest Senior, I moved to Salt Lake to attend the University of Utah. In February 1963 I went to North Germany on my first mission for 31 months. When I got back home to Salt Lake, the next summer I went to Nauvoo, IL to work for the Restoration Project as their photographer. My second mission was for 2 years in the Family History Library in Salt Lake. I am now in Deltona Florida in the DeLand Stake, which includes Daytona Beach and 2 times a year Bike Week. In October 2012 I will return to Stockton for my 50 year reunion.

Why I am a Mormon

When I graduated from school I had been attending the synagogue at the end of the block where I lived. When I got to Utah and the University of Utah, I met 2 young men who had been on their missions to South America. They gave me a Book of Mormon. I went home and read it through the first time in 17 hours. It was so familiar yet different from what I had learned in Schul. Since then I have read it over 20 times as well as reading all 2500 pages of all the scriptures 2 times. Without the scriptures and my belief in THE LORD and the gospel I would do nothing. I always have at least 2 Books of Mormon in my side car to share with bikers and always have Pass Along Cards to give to bikers I meet.

How I live my faith

I am an Elder and I am a biker. I ride a World War II Russian Ural, a motorcycle with a sidecar. I am a member of the Soviet Steeds, a world wide organization of Ural owners and riders. Often the Uralista in my area take group rides and often we ride through the "Mormon Ranch"; the Deseret Ranch and Citrus Farm, the largest single ranch in Florida. My fellow members know I do not smoke, drink, or cuss, and they honor and respect my life style and religious beliefs. I am also the first member of the Temple Riders Association in Florida, an organization of LDS singles and couples who meet often to ride together and visit and do work in the LORD'S TEMPLES. I am a Ward and Stake Family History instructor and teach the Family History beginning classes in my ward along with my wife.
