Hi I'm Ashley
I am a 19 year old girl attending Brigham Young University in Idaho. I was born in Mexico City and lived there until I was almost 11 years old. I have such fond memories of my childhood and often miss the Mexican culture and the people there. The summer before I turned 11 I moved to California where my parents and younger brothers and sisters still live while I attend college. I am studious but also love to have fun. One of my favorite past times is to make music videos with my friends. I also love to take pictures. I love to be outside and camping is one of my favorite things to do in the summer. For this reason I decided to be a recreational management major with an emphasis in therapy.I am one of five kids and the second to oldest. My older brother just got married last August and I I adore my new sister-in-law. My little brother is seven years old and he is the apple of my eye. I try to include my family as much as I can. I love my friends but I have realized that at the end of the day, I go home to my family and they are the ones who take care of me. I mean who else would put up with my obnoxious singing at the top of my lungs? Family and the Church of Jesus Christ of Later-day Saints are what is most important to me.
Why I am a Mormon
Many might say that I am a Mormon because of my parents. I was born and raised as a Mormon, attending church each Sunday and learning to say my prayers. I personally like to look at this more as my introduction to Mormonism though. I was raised with all of the understandings of the church but it wasn't until my teen years where I realized that if I wanted to continue to be a Mormon than I should find out for myself if what I had been taught where true or not. After a lot of prayer and studying I came to know for myself that this church and its teachings were true. I am Mormon because of the hope that is here. The hope that families can be together forever. The hope that the heavens are still open and that God is speaking to us today. The hope that death is not the end and that we will be able to see those who have passed on. The hope that there is someone out there watching over us. The hope that when we mess up that we can repent and be free again. After studying and praying all of this hope can become knowledge. I know that families can be together forever. I know that Heavenly Father listens to our prayers. I know that there is a Prophet on the Earth today and his name is Thomas S. Monson. I know that the Book of Mormon, along with the Bible, has a more complete understanding of Heavenly Father and all of his mighty works. I know Joseph Smith translated the Book of Mormon through the power of God and that he was a Prophet. I know these things to be true and I invite you to come and learn for yourself. I hope that you will read the Book of Mormon, come to church and come and share in the feelings of joy that I have felt. I know this all to be true and I hope that as you have read this that you to have felt a little bit happier and that you will explore that feeling and realize it is because what I have said is true. Please come and find out for yourself if it is true.
How I live my faith
To live my faith I try to stay as involved with church activities as I can. I also participate in visiting teaching which is an assignment given to all of the women in the ward to go visit another women in the ward and share a message with them or just to drop by and see how they are doing. I enjoy this because it gives me the opportunity to get to know more of the women in our church. I also help organize activities for our church that occur every other Friday. We try to do fun activities such as dances, mud football, and other fun activities. There are also many activities where we gather together for a lesson where we can learn more about our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. One of my favorite things to do is attend a class at what is called institute where many gather together to learn about the Bible, the Book of Mormon, and the Prophets. I enjoy this because of the great feeling I have each time I go. I do my best to also read each night from either the Bible or Book of Mormon to learn for myself and to know the words of our Heavenly Father and the Prophets of old.
