Hi I'm Nathan

I grew up in Bloomington, Indiana. I've run a marathon, played jazz gigs on the sax and studied physics. I'm a mormon.

About Me

I am 18 and I just graduated from high school. I studied physics and calculus and enjoy the sciences very much. I was always that quiet kid in the back that was always secretly interested in the class despite peers who complained. However, I also have a real passion for music and especially jazz. I can spend as much as three hours a day practicing on my alto sax. I find most forms of music to be beautiful because of how one can express their emotions in ways that words can't describe. In addition to being a science nerd and a musician, I am also an avid runner. I ran cross-country for my high school team and have run multiple races. Among others, I have run 5k races, 10k races, a half marathon, and even a full-length marathon.

Why I am a Mormon

Being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ has always been a huge blessing to my life. Throughout my childhood, I had been taught how the devil wants to destroy our lives and make us as unhappy as he can. I had learned the lessons but it wasn't until I was about fourteen or fifteen that I started to realize this absolute truth. Things started to go downhill for me. I would choose things that would make me unhappy. I would choose the quick and easy solution. I would wander from one thing to the next trying to find a purpose for life. From one bad decision to the next, my dissatisfaction with all things in life increased. I had chosen what the devil had to offer which seemed at first to be great and wonderful but ultimately lead to nothing but sorrow. I realized that in my desperation, I had failed to do the one thing that could bring me true happiness. I decided to pray and ask for help in my trials and afflictions that I would be able to stand the intense sadness and overall helplessness that I felt. I can scarcely describe the feelings of peace and joy that came to me in that moment. The faith to ask for help eventually led to the knowledge that Jesus Christ had personally suffered every single trial and tribulation that I had faced. I knew that he had been felt in the same amount of pain and suffering that I had. That knowledge allowed me to realize that the only way we can be happy is for us to turn to Jesus Christ. With sufficient changes to my life, I began to live life with increased vigor. For the first time, it seemed as if I could accomplish anything. I know that Jesus Christ descended below all. I know that He lives and that He loves each of us individually. If we turn our lives to Him, He can make our lives happy.

How I live my faith

As a member of the church, I have had so many opportunities to live as Jesus Christ would have me live. As a Jazz musician, I find it a huge blessing to learn and grow through music. Through my music, I can express my feelings of joy and gladness and share these experiences with the audience. I believe that we have a Heavenly Father that loves each one of us individually. I think that He put music on this earth so that we could be individually happy but also intimately share our happiness with others. As a natural consequence, I see it only fitting to glorify God's name with the wonderful talents and abilities that I have been blessed with.
