Hi I'm Duane

Son, husband, father, friend, citizen, collaborator, dba, developer, and student of all things good. And a Mormon.

About Me

My primary interests widely vary, because I love to learn about everything I can. Family, people, purpose of life, finding new ways to keep dating my wife, being a part of the solution, giving back, the art of communication, and model rocketry (5 oz. to 500 lbs.) are just a few of my favorite ways to spend my time. I also enjoy etymology: the study and understanding of the root history and meaning of words and word-parts. With that comes a love of history, the universe, and the movements of time, people, and planets. I work heavily with technology and data. I enjoy the art of creating and supporting systems that deliver value for years and beyond. Pretty interfaces come and go - like fad and fashion; but the knowlege (data) gained and properly retained and analyzed allow future lessons and growth to occur.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon today, because I wanted to know for myself if the Book of Mormon is true. I took up Moroni on his promise, and I prayed to know. The expression of love and confirmation that came in ways that only I would understand has over the years only multiplied many-fold. Truth is re-confirmable, again and again and again. "By the fruits" sheds much light on the those things that are good and true, and those that lead to self-destruction. At times when even my soul is shaken to the core, that original firm witness of the truth of the Book of Mormon connects me in-separably to my Savior and His love, grace, to a Loving Father in Heaven who desires to improve, guide, and bring his children home, and all other truth. I am a Mormon because I believe the principles taught as a Mormon most closely resemble the teachings of the Savior, the biblical prophets, the Book of Mormon, and my own person testimony in the daily studies of life. As a human being I struggle on, one day at a time. I am a Child of God who desires to learn how to be like Father, through the example of Jesus Christ. My ultimate desire is to be with all my family in lasting peace and love for all eternity... all of my family.

How I live my faith

My relationship to God and my relationship to my family are the two very most important things in my life. These two areas are what I pour out my soul for. I also love to serve because those are the moments that bring me the most joy. Service to my family, my neighborhood, my community, my state, my country, and the rest of the wcountry, my state, my city, my community, my neighborhood, and my family. Moments spent at an orphanage years ago in South Korea still bring feelings that well up in my soul. Recent volunteer time for the city after working hard for days to prepare and host the multi-day event sent my soul bursting with smiles when the fireworks went up into the night sky. Some of the most fun and influential moments I have had have been at winter-time Boy Scout camps in twenty degrees below zero weather; the preparedness "ah-hah" moments come quickly then. The most important thing I try to keep in mind is in remembering that a life of happiness is a pro-active choice and not a coincidence. I can live, love, and have joy, because my Savior lives and paid the price that sets me free... free of my fears, my failures, my imperfections. Because of Him I am free to live after the manner of happiness as I learn to be like Him, one day at a time, one hour at a time, even one moment at a time. I have experienced some heavily devastating defeats in my life, but have seen wonderful miracles come from the ruins of those defeats. Because of those defeats, I have come to know what the Atonement means to me personally, and the tender mercies of my Savior and my God; I would not change those lessons even if I could.

How can we stop the spread and influence of pornography?

Duane
I don't know if I can answer on a public scale, but I will on an individual one: Pornography is one of the most destructive tools of the adversary to destroy families, and nations. It is nearly impossible to avoid, flagrantly displayed in the images and advertisement of many products. The very nature of it keeps most people quiet and secretive on the subject. I firmly believe more than ever that to combat it, one must seize upon the redeeming love and power of the Lord. A humble earnest pleading to God in times of trouble and weakness can help to keep us close to truth and make it through the day. The war is not lost. Lost battles can be turned into triumphs. Hearts can be made whole. Many find true peace and happiness when they come to realize that with the Lord all things are possible. The Master Healer has paid the price and rendered an infinite Atonement that encompasses past, present, future, physical, spiritual, and very personal salvation. The adversary would have us believe it isn't possible, we are too far gone, beyond help. No bigger lie has ever been perpetrated upon the human mind. As long as we have life on this earth, we can turn to Him, and know peace indescribeable, love beyond words, salvation immeasureable. On our own, we cannot heal ourselves. We know He can heal all things. We must, however, choose to let Him, one step at a time. We do not try to do it all at once. We accept what we can do and work to build on that one day at a time.
