Hi I'm Laura

I grew up in Canada. I am a wife, mother, photographer, writer and avid traveler. And I am a Mormon.

About Me

I was born in Vancouver, Canada and moved to Calgary, Alberta when I was 7-years-old. I loved growing up in Canada but always knew that one day I would spread my wings and explore other countries. What I didn't know was that Heavenly Father would bless me with an eternal companion and two incredible children to explore the world with. As a family we have already been to 12 different countries (and counting!). We feel so fortunate to meet many different people and lands as we expand our understanding of ourselves, our faith and the world around us.

Why I am a Mormon

Having grown up in a family where we went to church every Sunday, it would be easy for people to assume that I have always had a testimony, but I haven't. For me, my testimony began in my late teenage years as a small desire to want more understanding and solidity in my life. I struggled through various physical and emotional pain for nearly 5 years as I tried to find my solid footing in the gospel. It was after I experienced a very painful divorce that I came to a strong realization that through all my misguided decisions in life I have had a loving Heavenly Father who has always been there, blessing me as much as I would allow him. Since then I have opened the door to my Savior (and His atonement) by accepting full activity in the gospel and the church and my life has been richly blessed as a result.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by exercising it in everything that I do and by thanking Heavenly Father for each and every moment He gives me. I do my best to always align myself with Heavenly Father's plan for me. This is not always easy as sometimes, in my limited knowledge, I think I know what is best for me as an individual (or for my family) when what Heavenly Father has in mind is far greater than I could dream of. I love serving as a wife and a mother and try to find ways to improve myself in those each day. At church, I have the privilege of working with the children (aged 18 months - 11 years) as I serve in the presidency of what is known as the Primary Organization. I love this calling in the church. Though serving in a foreign language (that I am not fluent in - yet!) has its difficulties, it has taught me to rely and trust in the promptings of the Spirit. The Spirit can communicate to your heart and mind, no matter what the spoken language and it is beautiful.
