Hi I'm Myrna

I am a Mormon. I grew up mainly in Oklahoma City, but also lived in Colorado and California.

About Me

I was a teacher - and guess in some ways I still am. I went back to college at age 47 to finish my degree and ended up having to retire 4 years later due to ill health. I have always done arts and crafts - and even taught art for a semester! I love to travel, and have had the opportunity to visit several cities in the Caribbean, and a wonderful two weeks in London and Paris. I am the mother of four, and the foster mother to one. We have (from our foster daughter) two delightful grand-angels. They are quite the "little men" in our family.

Why I am a Mormon

I mentioned earlier that I was the mother of four children. Only one of our children survives. After the loss of two babies, I was tired of hearing 'platitudes' from various ministers and from our family who were of all different faiths. I was asked by one family member what horrible sin I had committed to have my children taken from me! I just didn't believe in a God who would be so cruel. Then one day two missionaries knocked at my door. They explained that Mormon's believe that if we live our lives righteously, we can have the opportunity to raise these precious children in the Eternities. What a blessing! The minute they explained this concept (and showed me where it was talked about in the scriptures) I knew it was true. Then, as I began to talk with them more and more, I asked THEM the questions that I had always asked my Methodist ministers growing up, and found THEY had scripture based answers for whatever question I asked. Things like how can God, Jesus, and the Holy Ghost all be one person? (I had wondered things like who Jesus would have been talking to when hanging on the cross -- himself?) It just made sense that these were three SEPARATE beings! How much easier the scriptures were to understand by not having this confusion! I had also asked former ministers, "why don't we have prophets today? Were the times any less evil now than they were back then? Don't we still need guidance?" Of course we do! And, we do have a living prophet who heads this church. What a blessing it is to have active, modern day revelations! The Heavens are not closed! Of course, the head of our church is Jesus Christ. THE Jesus Christ! He lives. He is REAL! He knows each and every one of us personally! We ARE his brothers and sisters! We have a Heavenly Father -- and a Heavenly Mother (wouldn't make sense if we didn't!). The Holy Ghost will witness to you, as He did to me, if you just ask in sincere prayer. I encourage you to do so.

How I live my faith

With my best friend, I volunteer every Monday for our local food pantry. I also serve as its Secretary to the Board of Directors. I was asked, shortly after I retired from teaching, to serve on our local Economic Development Commission. We help to decide how to spend a portion of sales tax revenue to build up our city and encourage development. We had helped to fund things like a Veteran's Park, a City Sports Park and Pavilion, a police dog, and more. It's always an interesting meeting! For ten years (until just recently) I was the "Public Affairs Committee" person for our Ward. I wrote newspaper articles about events and people in our Ward. I helped organize and publicize our annual Nativity Exhibit each Christmas. This year will be our 9th year displaying about 500 nativities in all shapes, sizes, and materials, from all over the world.. I've also helped each year with "Granny's Attic" a free "garage sale" we have with the purpose of helping families in our community obtain free, serviceable clothing for their children for school. Both have been very successful events.
