Hi I'm Dana

I am a wife and the mother of 7. I live near Fort Worth, Texas. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in Utah, the 2nd of 6 children. I met my husband in High School and we married 5 years later, after we had both gotten a good start at college and served missions for our church. I am a Registered Nurse. I love it because I have worked when I needed to and been a stay-at-home mom the rest of the time. My husband and I now have 4 girls and 3 boys (We're still pinching ourselves!), ranging in age from infant to age 16. I love the big family life. It is full of different personalities and ages and activities. the kids grow to be interesting, thinking individuals. My husband and I like to find adventures with the kids like cliff-jumping at a lake or river-rafting in our patched-up rafts. We have fun with game-nights with friends. In 2010, Unemployment and starting a new company brought us to the Fort Worth area. We were extremely homesick for our family and friends and familiarity. I wondered how we would make it in this new place and if it would get easier. I'm happy to say it has been amazing! We are happy. We are so grateful for all of our new friends and experiences!

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised as a Mormon but I continue as a Mormon because I believe it is Christ's church restored as it was in New Testament times. Every doctrine makes logical sense in my mind, but I also feel it is true in my heart. It is wonderful to raise my children in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. There are clear standards with regards to things like honesty and dating and keeping the Sabbath Holy. Those standards have been given by Heavenly Father, through the church, through a prophet today (like in ancient times). My kids are often asked why they shouldn't date at a young age or smoke or cheat on tests. They know trust in the standards that the Lord has set. I know that my Heavenly Father loves me personally. He has helped me through my most difficult times and been by my side in the great times too. Life is challenging. But that is part of His great plan. We are here to be tested, and to choose to follow Christ or not. I choose to follow Him.

How I live my faith

The gospel of Jesus Christ is the reason behind much that I do in my daily life. It gives my life joy and direction! As a family of 9, there is a lot of loudness and craziness at our house. But our gospel routines keep love and a good feeling in the home. We pray together before meals. Before bedtime we read from the scriptures and say a family prayer. Every Monday night, after dinner, we spend the evening having a gospel lesson and hanging out together. There are lots of neat things that my kids are involved with where they are with good friends and their faith in Jesus Christ is strengthened. My 2 high school kids attend a daily morning seminary class with others their age where they study the scriptures. They attend church-sponsored dances and weekly Wednesday-night activities. My 2 older boys are Boy Scouts in a troop chartered by the LDS church. My kids love love love gathering with their friends with similar values and having fun. On Sundays, we attend church as a family. I lead the choir in our congregation. Of course, I would prefer to just sing with the choir, but it's been a good experience to lead the choir and be out of my comfort-zone.
