Hi I'm Thomas

I'm Nigerian-American, I can Dunk, and I'm a Mormon

About Me

I am currently a college student. My major is history with a focus on African and African-American history. I like to learn about the culture of my people in Americas and Africa and different culture that are not my own, currently Native American and Pacific Island cultures. My family are from Nigeria. My family is a very formative and great influence on my life. From everything to how I live and what I eat, I gain from my parents advice and my Nigerian Heritage. I love to do career counseling at my job. I really have a passion to help develop others and help people discover what their passion is professionally. That's my passion and reinforces my desire to go into Training and Development. I do my best to stay fit and active. I love to play sports, such as football, baseball, and especially basketball. I love manga. Anything from Dragonball, Naruto, Bleach, I like to read. I'm always open to new series to get into.

Why I am a Mormon

Before I was LDS, I came from a Baptist background. I am very grateful for that because it gave me such a good foundation on simple Bible doctrine and helped me understand the importance of Jesus Christ as my savior. This is why, at first, I was very skeptical of believing in the Latter Day Saint church, because of my foundation in Baptist. My family were Baptist and were set on that. But what softened me towards the message that LDS taught was the fact that it reconfirmed a lot of the beliefs I had about the Bible and God, and then vastly expanded on it. One main one, and the most difficult for me to accept, was why wouldn't Heavenly Father give us a Prophet on Earth, just as he did in past times leading up to Christ. The fact that we have a prophet that speaks purely about Jesus and his love for us, is a constant reminder that God knows me and remembers me. We all can have our individual times with God, but its always helpful for someone with authority to remind us about our purposes and the commandments we need to uphold. Honestly, I've felt a lot more peaceful about the things I do day to day. I know that my relationship with God has been closer than it has ever been before joining the Church. He isn't a distant being that is far off and recognizes me from time to time. He's constantly there for me to rely upon him, and that is evident throughout the Bible and the Book of Mormon.

How I live my faith

The way I live my life is very much filled around giving my time to others. My responsibility in the Church is to welcome people who are new into the church. I believe giving our time, whether its to educate others on our faith or simply giving someone in need a ride or helping them move are some things I do to live my faith. Christ stressed the importance of charity and how it is up to each of us to sustain each other. I believe that's one of the most important commandments and should do it little by little each day.
