Hi I'm Kyle Kossin

I'm a violist. I'm a writer. I'm a gamer. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

After one year of studying computer science and creative writing at the University of Utah, I was called to serve in the Germany, Berlin mission and I am currently awaiting Halloween, which is when I'll begin this journey. I'm working diligently to prepare for this endeavor because, although I am of German descent and have traveled to Germany twice, I have extremely little knowledge of the language and have never been within my mission area's boundaries. I've played the viola for eight years and the bass guitar for two. I also count the piano and drums as members of my musical arsenal, though to a smaller degree. My passion for music has driven me to an ecclectic collection of 7,000 songs. I also own a large number of video games and I adore the immersion and unique methods of storytelling that they employ. This admiration fuels me in college, as I am studying to become a game designer. Regrettably, this pursuit is gradually becoming a let-down because of my growing desire to be a fiction novelist. Although I plan to have a Creative Writing minor as backup, I'm desperately wishing for and fighting for the author's way of life. Hopefully, you'll see my name on a book cover one day.

Why I am a Mormon

I adhere to the high standards of this Church because of the comfort and safety it provides, the effects of which have been evidenced by fellow members, especially those who are close to me, time and time again. I follow the doctrine of this Church because of the sense of surety and capability I've been able to obtain through trusting and living it. I participate in this Church because I want to help those who already know these blessings to remember their importance and the associated prerequisites and because I desire to bring those who live without these great things into His joyous light.

How I live my faith

I've held several different leadership roles in different youth groups, including my current position as an advisor in my stake's missionary preparation class, in which I often conduct our weekly meetings. I also serve as a home teacher with my dad; we visit monthly with two separate families in our ward and receive the same service from two other men in our neighborhood. The most exciting church activity I participate in is my stake's orchestra, in which I lead the viola section. Twice annually, we prepare and perform for our stake conference and for a moving Christmas program. In about three months, I'll be leaving to serve a two-year, full-time mission in Berlin.
