Hi I'm Lonnie

I've had doubt's and I've had faith. Faith is stronger. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I live with my husband and 2 cats. I love music (got about 1,000 songs on my iPod), family history, and white chocolate. I have 3 sons and 5 grandchildren.

Why I am a Mormon

My family was taught about the gospel by the Mormon missionaries. As a young teenager I felt drawn to the church and the exciting truths I was being taught. I felt God wanted me to join his church. I have never regretted that decision. I absolutely love God's plan of salvation!

How I live my faith

I have been a member for about 40 years now. I try to follow my conscience and the scriptures and do the right thing. I look at the world as a place where we all are just trying to learn what real happiness is and that it comes from God. God has a plan for us and we can be with him again after we die. My faith is a big part of my everyday life, not just on Sundays. On Sundays, I am involved with teaching other women about gospel principles that have been spoken about by modern day prophets.

Who wrote the Book of Mormon?

Lonnie
Ancient prophets in the America's wrote the Book of Mormon on metal plates that were then buried in the earth for hundreds of years. Joseph Smith was visited by an angel from God and told that he should have the plates and translate them and they would be holy scripture. This new scripture would not replace the Bible, but be a companion to it and be a 2nd witness to Jesus Christ. I have studied this book for over 30 years, and can tell you it is true and in no way a hoax or fraudulent. Those who claim that it is false, use a short sighted view that is based in misunderstanding. Please know that my testimony of the Book of Mormon as scripture comes from sincere prayer, reason, study and faith. Please accept my invitation to read this wonderful book and know for yourself. Why do Mormons perform proxy baptisms in their temples?

Lonnie
The New Testament gives many examples that baptism is essential for salvation. One question many Christians have had is "what happens to those who never even had the opportunity to be baptized?" Because God is merciful and fair, he allows those who never had the chance to receive baptism, an opportunity after they have died. In the spirit world (after death) many are taught about the gospel and given the choice to accept a proxy baptism by someone who has performed it here on the earth for them. Why does it have to be performed here on earth? I don't know the complete answer, but give 3 reasons to consider. 1. God will judge us by what we have done here on the earth. 2. In order to use the same "measuring stick" for judgement, and thus be fair, the ordinance needs to be done on earth during the physical life. 3. A proxy is used because the spirit of the deceased person cannot return to mortality to have it performed. Latter Day Saints perform the ordinance for others so they will have the opportunity for salvation. When we are baptized for the dead there are a few rules we follow. One is that we make no judgment about the level of that persons righteousness while they lived. Another is we respect the wishes of certain groups, that petition us NOT to perform this ordinance for their members. Also we understand that those who we have baptized ALWAYS have the choice to accept or reject it. Show more Show less

What are some things that tell you there is a God?

Lonnie
1.The amazing creation of this world and everything in it. There is just no way all this could happen by accident. 2. The testimony of the scriptures. 3. Miracles that are happening today - People are healed. Prayers are answered. People are understanding the reality of Jesus Christ and his gospel. Problems that seemed impossible are being solved. People are finding happiness when they connect to God. 4. I live the commandments God gave us. Following God's plan I can see that God loves us and wants us to be happy by following him. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is not just a set of rules and ideas made by man. 5. Music. I am talking about beautiful music that touches a place deep inside you. How and why do we possess this form of creation and communication, unless it was placed within us by God? 6. The existence of an afterlife. The theory of evolution provides no rational for a "spirit" or "soul" to exist beyond the death of the body. I have read of and experienced myself, communication in one form or another of those who have died. 7. My own communication with God. Yes he hears and answers my prayers. Show more Show less
