Hi I'm Carissa Giles

Music, Cooking and Martial Arts is my life. I survived a brain tumor and major surgery. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have lived in Germany for all of my teenage life. I love playing the violin, piano, singing, recording and writing music. I started martial arts when I was 20 and its become a major part of my life, I do XMA and MMA. I love to travel and learn about different cultures, the way they live, their music and cooking styles. Now, I am preparing to serve the Lord by serving a 18 month mission. I am very excited to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to help serve Heavenly Father's children.

Why I am a Mormon

I have been a member all my life. It hasn't been until now that I have realized and know that the Church is true. When I look back at my life I see the miracles and blessings that Heavenly Father has given my family. My father was deployed 3 times in Iraq. It was very hard to get by with him gone for so long. But, the Lord blessed us so much with protecting my father while in war and giving my family people that helped us get by and brightend our day. A year and a half ago I found out I had a tumor at the base of my brain. That was one of the hardest days of my life! I cried to the Lord wondering "why me?". As, I prayed and thought about it, I knew it was something I had to go through. I started to see all the steps Heavenly Father had helped me with to recieve the medical treatment that was right for me. He knew I needed to move to the States from Germany. He knew I would meet someone in my Ward that worked at the Mayo Clinic who would get me in to see the top doctors. He knew that I would survive and would no longer suffer from chronic neck pain and headaches and that my left side would no longer be paralized. If I didn't trust in Him I would not have been where I am today: healthy, alive and strong. I am a Mormon because I know Heavenly Father loves me. I know He has a plan for me. I know that He saved my life! I am forever grateful to Him and I am grateful to be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints!

How I live my faith

I've been able to serve with the children in my ward. When I lived in Germany most of the men were away at war so it was great to be apart of those childrens lives and to help them grow in the Gospel while their fathers were away. Now, I still work with the children and I feel that as I put my all into helping them grow and preparing lessons, that I myself am learning so much more about myself and the Gospel. Also, as a visiting teacher I learn the importance of being a daughter of God. I see how much God loves his daughters and wants them to be happy. I know that is why He has the women in the Church do visiting teaching. I do my best to serve the women that I visit teach. I know Heavenly Father loves them and wants me to take care of them. Now I have decided to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ and go on a mission. I know that I am not a perfect person. I have so much to learn in this life, but I know that I can learn and help others by serving the Lord.
