Hi I'm Emily

Born in Texas, grew up in NOVA, college in Utah, & New Hampshire bound. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the youngest of five kids to two great parents. I'm a junior in college studying Public Health- specifically health promotion. I am passionate about helping others and want to do that in my future. I'm a sucker for educational podcasts, cooking shows, and documentaries. I love to throw around the frisbee, watch a good movie, and eat pickles and just about anything vinegary. I have been called to serve an 18 month mission for my Church in the New Hampshire Manchester area. I'm eager to serve and excited for the future!

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon, simply, because the gospel brings me so much joy. Living it fully, trying my best to choose the right and changing when I fall short, is what brings happiness. Relying on the Lord gives me the strength to change. Accepting the truth is a necessary and vital step. I have read and studied the Book of Mormon and personally received my own testimony that it is indeed the word of God. Prayer, fasting, and a witness from the Holy Ghost is how I received my answer. I know that we have a caring Heavenly Father who is aware of each of us and who wants to answer our questions. I know that Jesus Christ is our Savior, the Redeemer, and our advocate with the Father. I also know that the Book of Mormon contains eternal truths and if we earnestly seek to know of its truthfulness we will receive an answer. I am so grateful for my faith and the comfort and solace it brings into my life. This gospel is true and I cannot deny it.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying not to compartmentalize my life into segments with different standards for each. I try to live each part of my life whether it be school, work, or church with the same standards. I try to live in an honest, kind, and selfless way. Above all, I always try and choose to be happy. Daily scripture study and prayer make that choice much simpler.

What is the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Why was it necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice His life?

The Atonement consists of Christ suffering for our sins in the Garden of Gethsemane, sacrificing His life for us on the cross, and Him conquering death and being resurrected. The Atonement was possible because Christ was a perfect sacrifice. The sacrifice is both infinite and eternal (Alma 34:10). To make use of His Atonement in our individual lives we must: have faith in Christ, repent of our sins, be baptized and confirmed by one having authority, receive the Holy Ghost, and obey the commandments continually trying to become like Him. As we do these things, utilizing the Atonement, we can ultimately return to live with Him and our Heavenly Father. I have come to accept that I will never truly understand the Atonement fully. I do not know how Christ was able to feel the pains, anguish, guilt, and take upon Him all the sins of the world. But that does not mean I have not felt its cleansing effects in my life. I know that the Atonement is real and if relied upon can enrich our lives and draw us nearer to our Savior. Show more Show less
