Hi I'm James H

Life is sweet.

About Me

I just finished up school a year ago. I love exploring the world around me, that is why I chose Geography as my major. I think there are so many wonderful places in this world to visit and learn about. Plus, I believe that there is a God above that knows each person individually that lives on this earth. He knows and cares about their happiness and welfare just as he does mine. It blows my mind when I think about it.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints because I believe that Jesus Christ has established his church here on the earth in this day and age. I find real answers to life's hardest questions about who we are, why we are here, and where we go after this life. These answers bring peace to my soul and give me the perspective to understand daily life better. There are many philosophies about what is true and real in this life. You don't have to listen very long before your head starts to spin from confusion. The two greatest things I have come to know are: 1. I am a child of God and I lived with him before I was born 2. I am here on this earth to learn how to become like him and eventually return to his presence one day. To make this possible, Jesus Christ volunteered to come to this world to make it possible for me to be cleansed and forgiven of the mistakes I would make in this life. For whatever reason, the price was his life--and he paid it, out of an incredible love he has for all of us. Lastly, God has given us a prophet, just like he always has, to help lead and guide us through life's journey. In the end, I feel like these are eternal truths that God would have every one of us to know. And when people accept these truths, their happiness and understanding in this life will increase exponentially.

How I live my faith

My faith is everything to me. To me, faith isn't just something we only pay attention to on Sunday and then go do our own thing the rest of the week. The main purpose of life is to find out who we are, what we are to do, and then have the faith and determination to go do it. There are many things we can place our faith in, but I have found that faith in Jesus Christ and his teachings bring true peace and happiness in this life. Being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has given me many opportunities to apply Jesus' teachings. I get the opportunity to help teach classes to other members of my congregation, participate in fun outings and activities with people my age, and work, worship, and have other faith promoting experiences together.

What is the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Why was it necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice His life?

James H
The Atonement of Jesus Christ is the act where he gave his life in our behalf so that we have the opportunity to live forever with God. In the Atonement, Jesus overcame two types of death--physical death and spiritual death. He over came spiritual death when he went to the Garden of Gethsemane and suffered intense pain in paying the price of all of our sins. He overcame physical death when he was resurrected. Because he overcame spiritual and physical death, we will all live again after we die, and we have the chance to spend the next life in the presence of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ and all those whom we love, if we do the things God asks us to. Some ask why Jesus had to give up his life for the Atonement. One reason is that in order to truly save all mankind, he needed to experience and overcome everything man would have to go through including death. Some people wonder why Jesus' Atonement is necessary at all. They wonder why God can't just forgive everyone and let them back home just because he wants to. The answer is because God is perfect and holy, he cannot have sin in his presence, which is bad news for us because we all make mistakes in this life and sin. The Atonement bridges the gap between us and Heavenly Father by paying the price that justice demands when we sin. We partake of the Atonement when we exercise faith in Jesus Christ, repent and try to become like him, are baptized by proper authority, and receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Show more Show less
