Hi I'm Rebekah

I grew up in San Diego. I've lived in Utah, Chile and South Korea. I'm working on a PhD in social work, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a 31 year old woman from California. I'm working on my PhD in social work. One of the reasons I love social work is because it gives me the opportunity to serve people in my every day life. I love working with people and helping them with anything they might be struggling with. I also love to swim and snorkel. I'm accruing a pretty big seashell collection. Whenever I'm near a beach town, I like to go to the seashell shops and find shells I don't have yet. I love literature also, especially 19th century British literature (Austen, Dickens, Gaskell, etc.). I've spent some time traveling, living in South Korea for about 6 months teaching English and social welfare outside of Seoul. Don't worry, I made sure to visit China briefly while I was there as well! I would've loved to go around to all the countries around there, but I didn't get the chance. I have two sisters and two brothers. The five of us have always been pretty great friends, and the church has only strengthened our friendship. We've all had different struggles, but we keep each other going. One of the great things about the church is that there are church members all over the world. As I've moved around completing my education, teaching in South Korea, and serving as a missionary for the church in Santiago, Chile, there were always church members nearby that I could turn to for strength and help. Having the church in my life has always helped me feel at home, no matter how far away from home I've been.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the church, with a mom and dad who are both members. I think I was really lucky to have been born into the church, but I've been especially blessed to develop my own testimony. I've had lots of experiences of being blessed because I was a member of the church.

How I live my faith

I've served in lots of different positions in the church. Because I'm a social worker, I often get callings where I can use my skills, helping take care of others. I've been working a lot with family history. I've been learning how to search for my ancestors, and find their histories. It's been really fun. I currently have a calling working in the nursery during church, watching over the kids who are between 18 months and 3 years old. It's a lot of work, but so much fun! I love introducing them to church songs and simple gospel principles.
