Hi I'm Shelby

I grew up in Idaho. I taught English in China. I love to read and travel and spend time with my husband. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I graduated with my bachelors degree in English, with an emphasis in Creative Writing. I'm married to the most wonderful man I've ever met, and I can't wait to be a mom. I taught English in China for a semester, and it really changed my perspective and made me grateful for a country where I can believe as I choose and practice my religion.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because I know the Book of Mormon is a true book, brought to the world by divine design. I am a Mormon because it is the way God wants me to live my life. I'm a Mormon because God has blessed my life immensely for living this way. It brings me closer to Him, and provides a way that I can be with my family for eternity. That knowledge, that I truly can live with my family forever, brings me more happiness than anything else ever could. And if you truly love someone, isn't that what you want? That includes being with God forever. I'm a Mormon because I love Him. I look at some of the people around me, even some of my closest friends, and I see how lost they are. It saddens me because I have this wonderful gift that could answer all their questions, calm all their fears, and give them guidance in every aspect of their lives, if they would but listen. I know that Joseph Smith restored the fullness of the gospel to the Earth. I know that the Book of Mormon is true, and that we truly have prophets and apostles of God alive today who can lead and guide us. I know that families are of divine design, and are central to God's plan of happiness, and thus, we can be sealed together forever. Most of all, I know God loves me and has a plan for me. That is why I'm a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by serving in my ward, by attending the temple, and by preparing to raise a family in the Church. I live my faith by submitting my will to the Lord, and letting Him know I am willing to do what He asks of me, and serve in any capacity where I am needed to build the Kingdom of God.

Why are only some Mormons allowed into temples? Is there something secret going on in Mormon Temples? What goes on in Mormon Temples?

Just as children are not always expected to know better when they misbehave, but adults are, God holds those with greater knowledge to a higher standard. A person has to be prepared and living by the guidelines the Lord has set before entering the temple. Once someone has been through the temple, the Lord has higher expectations of them. Just like you can't be expected to pass a Calculus test if you've only been taught Algebra, restrictions on who can enter the temple are a blessing to those who simply aren't ready or prepared to live the way God expects us to after we have made certain covenants in the temple. The ordinances in the temple are very sacred and beautiful. They provide a way for us to live with our Heavenly Father again, and to be with our families forever. The work for the dead allows those who died without an opportunity to accept the gospel to receive the full blessings of the gospel on the other side. These are not secret things. They are performed in the Old and New Testaments. We are not hiding anything in the temple, we are just protecting sacred ordinances from being desecrated. The temple is beautiful and pure. It is a place we can feel Heavenly Father's and the Savior's presence, and draw closer to them. Show more Show less
