Hi I'm Andy Hoopes

I am from Los Angeles, California. I love wakeboarding, heavy metal, and filmmaking, and I am a Mormon.

About Me

I'm cool and stuff.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because my faith gives me joy. I am a Mormon because I see that my life benefits from its teachings, which are in similitude with the teachings of Our Savior, Jesus Christ. I am a Mormon because living a righteous life helps me to love myself and to love others.

How I live my faith

In my opinion, Mormonism is more than a mere religion, as the world defines it. It is a lifestyle. There are some who attend church "religiously" and cause pain to others habitually. There are also the "non-religious" type who attend to the sick and the weary selflessly. I profess that the latter has more religion than the former. It is unfortunate that so much of the world looks poorly upon organized religion because they believe it is oppressive, or as some have put it, "an opiate of the public." They say that religion is the reason for wars. Indeed, there have been many men who have fought wars in the name of religion. I opine that it is not religion that starts wars, but rather, men. Flawed men. Who among us really, truly, fully understands his religion. I submit that there is none. I do not profess to know everything about my religion. Neither can I speak for another's. Religion indicates neither an oppressive hierarchy that restricts, nor a hypocritical weekly habit, but dedication to a real - and liberating - relationship between man and God. I live my faith through trying to understand my religion more fully each and every day. True religion means sticking to your values. That's what I try to do.

Are Mormons Christians?

Andy Hoopes
It's simple. Christians are defined by believing no less than these three things: 1. Jesus Christ is the Son of God; 2. Jesus Christ was conceived by a virgin; 3. Jesus Christ is the Savior of humanity. Do Mormons believe all of these things. Yes. Therefore, Mormons are Christians. Show more Show less

Why do you have 12 Apostles? They were just meant to be around for the time of Jesus Christ, not to be replaced with new apostles.

Andy Hoopes
The beautiful message of the New Testament is that Jesus Christ lives! So, if alive and still around, why would the ordination of the Twelve cease to continue? Show more Show less

Do you really believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today?

Andy Hoopes
Would it not require a current revelation in order to know of a surety that there is no more current revelation? Imagine God opening the heavens to call upon you: "There is no more continuing revelation. There shall be no more prophets. Go tell the world." Would that not constitute prophecy? Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Andy Hoopes
How many good people do you know? I know many. Joseph Smith was one of those good people. I try to be more like him. But I don't worship him. Show more Show less
