Hi I'm Brendon

I'm a graduate in law studying for a masters degree, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My parents instilled in me a love for learning and work, but I also love to have fun! Whitewater rafting, scuba diving and other fun activities have accompanied my love for travelling across Europe and into North America. At the age of 6 I began to play the piano and later the clarinet and saxophone, which has brought me many years of enjoyment. It has also brought many opportunities to serve others, lift and inspire throught the power of music. I enjoyed school but after working hard, I left dissatisfied and persued an apprenticeship to be a hair stylist. For a number of years I worked in the industry, specialising in Afro-Caribbean hair, being a part of the artistic team and enjoying the photoshoots, catwalks and teaching seminars that accompanied it. Again I became dissatisfied. When my brother needed help following severe challenges with his health I left work to support him. I later served in Canada as a Missionary for two years. This was the most satisfying experience of my life to date. Now, I'm on the path of study again. After completing a first class honours degree in Law I am furthering my career by completing a masters degree in Human Resource Management and Employment Law. While my career has been varied, I do enjoy being engrossed in a book or spending time with family and friends. When I'm at home you'll often find me in the kitchen cooking and baking for the family with home grown produce.

Why I am a Mormon

Although I grew up in the Church, raised by marvelous parents, there came a time when I realised that I was going through the motions and had taken many things for granted. I realised that my life was at a cross roads and I was unsure which way to go. I made a decision that changed my life for the better. I decided to pray for Spiritual witnesses as I attended church. From then on, it felt like the sermons and lessons were applicable directly to me. I renewed my effort to study the scriptures and pray daily and to serve those around me. What made this so effective was the relationship that I was was building with my Father in Heaven and His Son Jesus Christ. Life wasn't designed to be easy and certainly my own coctail of challenges has tested me sometimes to my limits but through it all, and because of my desires to reach out for God's hand, He has blessed me with a reassurrance of His love. This love is an empowering factor in my life. I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints because of the witness of the Holy Ghost. I know from the Spirit's gentle yet certain touch, that revelation is not dead, but continues to flow From God for all His children through His living and authorised Prophets, and for individuals through prayer. I know that God is a God of order and has once again organised The Church of Jesus Christ with all its covenants and ordinances for the benefit of His children. I recognise that in the world we deal with injust and often tragic circumstances. There is so much evil around us, but I also know there is so much that is bright and beautiful because of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and His Atonement. Knowing there is a plan for us all, one we may choose, and one that will make up for those things we unjustly experience, has given me a resolute hope. I know that God loves each of us. I have felt it repeatedly. As I endeavour to trust the Lord and His timing He brings me comfort and peace inspite of the world.

How I live my faith

I have been involved with the music for church meetings since the age of 12 and have often found worship through sacred music a great uplift and strength. Other responsibilities at Church involve teaching groups of adults and looking after the families in the local congregation in a pastoral role. It is a great opportunity to give selfless service and learn more about how to be like my Saviour. Being in my mid 20's, I have spent a number of years working with and among others of similar ages, seeking to uplift and strengthen each other by gospel study and wholesome recreation, but mostly by being a genuine friend. I have benefited from this and want to share it too. The greatest demonstration of my faith thus far has been serving for two years in Canada as a missionary, ministering to the spiritual needs of the people there, but while some of my life has been spent in responsible positions, the most beneficial things have always come from the small and simple things: a smile, a hug, a kind word. The gospel of Jesus Christ has a part for each of us to play. This part changes as we do, not for prominence or position, but rather so we can more fully serve each other and receive personal growth. I am far from perfect, but I seek to apply the teachings of Jesus Christ in my relationships so that I may be a strength and support to them. Daily scripture study, prayer and attending church meetings help me receive the guidance of the Holy Ghost and live an effective life with faith.
