Hi I'm Lisa

I'm 56 years old. I ran my first marathon when I was 52. I sing in a performing group. I read a book a week. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I graduated from college with a B.A. in English Education, but after having children chose to be a stay at home Mom. I have never regretted that decision. My husband and I have three daughters and one son and five granddaughters and one grandson! I love spending time with my family. I am in a singing group that performs in our community. I love to read, run, cook, sew, crochet and knit. I love holidays and celebrating life every single day.

Why I am a Mormon

I come from a family where membership in the church began in the 1840's. Many of my ancestors crossed the plains to find refuge in the Salt Lake Valley. So although I was raised in the church, I had to decide for myself whether or not I was going to be a Mormon. I grew up in Philadelphia and Richmond in the 60's and 70's and I was always the only Mormon in my school. It was very difficult. It was a period of my life where I wanted to be like everyone else. Being a Mormon was definitely different. There were times when I was embarrassed to be a Mormon. When I was in high school, a boy from another high school was learning about the church by meeting with the missionaries. One Sunday, he stood up and testified to the congregation that he had found the gospel of Jesus Christ in our church and was going to become a Mormon. It was at that very moment that I knew that I was happy to be a Mormon! The Holy Ghost penetrated my soul and told me that this was the Church of Jesus Christ on the earth today. Since that moment, my testimony has grown and grown. I absolutely, positively know that a young boy named Joseph Smith went into a grove to pray and ask Heavenly Father which church to join. And I absolutely know that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ appeared to him and that Joseph Smith was the instrument used to restore the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the earth. I have read the Book of Mormon numerous times and each time I read it the Holy Ghost whispers to me that it is the word of God. I know that we have a Prophet which leads our church today. I know that Heavenly Father hears and answers my prayers. I know that Jesus Christ lives and loves me. I know that through obedience to the commandments and through Christ's atonement, I can live with Him and Heavenly Father forever. I know that through the ordinances of the temple, I can be married to my husband forever and we can have our children and grandchildren with us forever.

How I live my faith

I have the most amazing assignment in our church. My husband and I are Service Missionaries and as such are the group leaders of the Addiction Recovery and Healing Program in our area. I love it. We meet with people who want to change their lives every week and we use a 12 step program to help them. Our 12 step program could be called "a guide to the Atonement" or a "how-to book on repentance". Participating in this program has changed my life. I have never felt the presence of the Savior as much as I do at our meetings.
