Hi I'm Marcelaine

I'm a mom. I study Geology. I love reading and playing the piano and oboe.

About Me

I grew up in a small town in Idaho. My great-great grandparents settled there in the early 1900s and our family stayed there for five generations. My husband is earning a PhD in astrophysics and I will soon earn a bachelor's degree in geology. We love to learn about God's creations and the things we have learned in our fields of study have been inspiring and have strengthened our belief in Him and His active role in our lives. Through the guidance of the Holy Ghost, we made the decision to begin having children while I was still attending school. It has been a difficult but rewarding road. I have learned more through raising our children than through any formal schooling I ever had. My experiences as a mom have taught me patience and helped me to understand and care about all sorts of people who are different from me. I have always loved to read and I tend to bring a book with me wherever I go. Our family enjoys camping, hiking, and going to parks together. I grew up in a musical family. We always participated in choirs and took advantage of opportunities to sing in church and our community. I started playing the piano in first grade, and I have had many opportunities to use that talent at church. I also play the oboe. It has been a blessing to give my musical performances as an offering to God in thanks for all that He has done for me.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I need Christ's atonement in my life. I have much to learn and many weaknesses to overcome, and by repenting and relying on Jesus Christ, my heart is gradually being changed and softened. I am a Mormon because I treasure the priesthood of God and the ordinances of the gospel (such as baptism, confirmation, and receiving the endowment and sealing in the temple). Receiving these ordinances has brought power, peace, and light into my life. I am a Mormon because I love to have the gift of the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost helps me to recognize truth, gives me guidance when I need help with decisions, comforts me when I struggle, warns me when I am in danger, and helps me to serve people. To me the Holy Ghost is just as real as the things I can touch and see, and I would be lost without his presence. I am a Mormon because I believe God gives us prophets to lead His church and teach us (in conjunction with the Holy Ghost) what He wants us to do.

How I live my faith

I love participating in activities with the other women at church. One of the programs I have enjoyed most in the church is the visiting teaching program, in which we are given a companion and two or three women to visit and share a message with each month. Through visiting teaching I have been able to make many dear friends and give them comfort and support when they are in need of help. I have also grown spiritually through the monthly opportunities to share and hear about faith and experiences with the sisters I visit and the sisters who visit me. I believe that the family is central to our Heavenly Father's plan. Our family has been sealed together through the priesthood so that we can be a family forever, not just until death. I enjoy learning about my ancestors because it makes me feel a bond with them, and I am grateful and excited that we can all be connected to each other forever by the sealing ordinance in the temple. Right now a great deal of my energy goes towards taking care of my children's needs. I view this as a calling and a responsibility given to me by God, and I try to take it very seriously. I pray every day for help to instill in them a love for God and a desire to live Christlike lives. I try to read the scriptures every day. This habit has blessed my life because the words of the prophets inspire me to keep trying to be a better person and help me to understand my relationship with my Heavenly Father better.
