Hi I'm Alyssa

I love other people and want to be a social worker. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a student at Brigham Young University and am studying sociology. I really want to get my master's in social work though, and eventually hope to work with teenage girls on self worth and improving their self-esteem. I love to sing, and I love to dance (although I'm not a very good dancer; I just love to have fun). I would travel anywhere in the world if I could, but am making the goal to visit all 7 continents (getting to Antarctica may be a little tricky though :D). I love summer-time, the outdoors, shopping, and watching movies with friends and family. I love life and my goal is to enjoy every minute of it, even when my days seem to be a little stormy.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the church, but chose to remain a faithful member because of the testimony I have of the truthfulness of the gospel. I was blessed with having the knowledge of Heavenly Father and my Savior throughout my life, although I didn't always appreciate it and truly feel the love that they have for me and the rest of God's children. Once I started to recognize the hand of the Lord in my life, I truly began to understand how precious I am to my Father in Heaven and my Savior, and how I truly am loved by them. One of my favorite scriptures in the Book of Mormon is found in 1 Nephi 11: 17 and it says "...I know that he loveth his children; nevertheless, I do not know the meaning of all things." I may not know how everything works in the world, why bad things seem to happen to good people, why there is so much death and destruction in the world, and many other things, but once I gained a testimony of this principle, suddenly all of those questions seemed to not matter so much anymore because I knew that God and Jesus Christ were always looking down on us with love and adoration, and that everything will work out in the end. I know that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ live. I know that Jesus Christ came to earth and atoned for the sins, pains, iniquities, afflictions, and sufferings of all mankind. I know the reason He made this tremendous sacrifice was because He loves us and wants us to return to our Heavenly Father. I know that Joseph Smith restored the gospel of Jesus Christ back to this earth. I am grateful for my testimony because it is how I know I am not someone who is worthless. I know I am loved and have a purpose to fulfill on this earth. Without my Heavenly Father and Savior, I am limited and feel like nothing. I'm grateful for all I know to be true, and the tremendous joy it has brought in my life :D

How I live my faith

I live my faith on a daily basis. I make sure to say prayers daily, read my scriptures, and spend time loving and serving those around me. My faith is my lifestyle. I have chosen not to do certain things because I know they will not bring me true and lasting joy and happiness. I go to church every Sunday, and love taking religion classes at school that teach principles of the gospel and help me on my path to becoming more like my Savior. I love being able to teach Sunday School in my ward because it is so fulfilling to serve others through teaching. One of my favorite things I have ever done is being a counselor at a church camp, called EFY, or Especially for Youth. It is a weeklong camp where youth of the church (even some who are not members) come and live the gospel to its fullest, growing and learning in the gospel, and strengthening their testimonies by learning more about Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father. Serving the youth in this capacity has strengthened my own testimony immensely. I strive to live my faith by serving others and drawing closer to my Heavenly Father and Savior in the process!
