Hi I'm Ashley Nelson

I'm a college student in Neuroscience. I love running long distances. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a college student majoring in neuroscience, which is the study of the brain and the nervous system. I work in a research lab that studies drug addiction with the hope that one day we can find the cure. I love running and I have run two marathons and one half marathon. My goal is to someday qualify for the Boston Marathon. I enjoy spending time laughing with my family and friends. I'm the oldest of four kids. I love to play sports and games and to laugh and smile. Volunteering with Special Olympics sports teams has been one of my favorite service opportunities in my life.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I love Jesus Christ, and this is His Church. My family members have been members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for many generations, but my parents have taught me to find out for myself if this church is true. I grew up easily trusting the words taught to me by my parents and church leaders because they sounded so good and so right to me. When I got a little older, I read The Book of Mormon and prayed to confirm that what I had read was true. Every time I have prayed about The Book of Mormon I am filled with a warmth that lets me know, "yes, these teachings are true." My relationship with God is the most important thing in my life because He helps me to know what will bring me the most happiness. Because I love God and am making the choices that He wants me to make through participating in programs in His church and making moral decisions I am a happier person, I love my family more, and I make deeper relationships with all my friends and family members. I truly believe that the best way to find happiness and comfort is through Jesus Christ, and I can testify that He has been there for me in tough times and in happy times. My future looks brighter because of my faith. I think that the two most important decisions I have made in my life are to be baptized in this Church and to remain faithful and active in it. I know that Christ lives, and that He loves each one of us.

How I live my faith

I live the gospel of Jesus Christ by praying and studying His words in the scriptures daily, and by attending church on Sunday. Because I am a college student, I live in a student ward for young single adults. I don't have family that lives in the surrounding area, so having people my age reach out to me to help me grow in my faith in Jesus Christ is a wonderful support. One of the greatest ways I have made friends since moving away from home has been through church activities. When we encounter stresses like big tests, low grocery money, and break-ups we can support each other through sharing Christ's love and comfort. I am developing into a better person for every sphere of my future life--family, career, and church--because of the lessons I am learning through participation in my church activities here at school. I hang out with my friends from church all the time because they are happy people and help me live high standards. I go to football games, dances, bonfires, and more with my friends from church, and then we all meet up on Sunday to listen and teach about Jesus Christ. I try and do simple acts of kindness each day to bring me closer to Christ. My family is incredibly important to me and I keep close contact with them through phone calls and video chats. My favorite way to build my friendship with Christ is through meaningful prayer, where I can express gratitude, ask for help, and feel His love for me individually.
