Hi I'm Rowland

I'm a violinist, an accordionist, a Frenchie, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

A lot of people tell you to find what your good at and stick to it. I say, why not try and do it all? I grew up with 5 older brothers and sisters and snippet-ed what I liked about what they did and infused it into my life. My sister played the violin; I started at 10 and have kept playing since. My brothers played basketball, soccer, and football; I started playing those sports and loved it. My grandma gave me an accordion; I took lessons and have been able to play in some pretty interesting venues. With school and less time to keep up on everything, I still love the chance I have to play, whether in a parade, on the field, or at school.

Why I am a Mormon

Why am I a Frenchie? For 2 years I served as a full time representative of Jesus Christ all around northern France and Belgium. It was without a doubt "les 2 meilleures années de ma vie." Before I left on this mission I had been a fairly rebellious teenager and had trapped myself in something that did not bring me joy but only sadness and guilt. My habits changed, my relationships deteriorated, and I just didn't feel like myself. Although I tried to hide it, I knew I needed to change to start feeling real happiness again. This was one of the hardest and most bitter moments of my life but the most liberating and refreshing - I had learned by experience how real the suffering of Jesus Christ was and how real it is in our own personal lives. I again felt happy and knew that what had happened was real; there was no other way to rid myself of such guilt and feel a complete change. During my mission I gained a better understanding and knowledge of the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon. Its message helped me improve and refine my life but also enabled others to know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is the same organization that existed during Christ's ministry. I was able to witness how Jesus Christ's Atonement operated in the lives of people I met and see them progress - many of them much more than myself.

How I live my faith

The two great commandments outline for me what is expected of us to please God. I do my best to study the scriptures, the Bible and the Book of Mormon, pray regularly and worship God as He has asked us. But the second commandment carries equal weight for me. I teach lessons during church and visit members of the community regularly to help and inspire. I don't proclaim to be some incredible Christian without flaws, but I do try to serve others wherever and whenever I can.
