Hi I'm Andrew

I grew up in NYC, Queens. Im serving a full-time mission in Nevada, Las Vegas. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have two older brothers and four sisters. i speak spanish because my parents are from honduras. When i was a child, most of my summers were spent in honduras visiting family. I pretty much grew up in the LDS church. My parents are converts. I'm the first one in my family to go on a mission. I love to play volleyball, soccer, and ultimate frisbee.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in the latter-day saints church. I went to church mostly because my parents told me it was the right thing to do. For most of my childhood, i never had a testimony or confirmation that the things i believed in were true. I grew up on the idea that because i felt "good" while reading the book of mormon that that was enough for me. Several years later, during the beginning of my mission, i decided that i would pray to know if the book of mormon was true. The next day i was reading in the book of mormon and a particular verse caught my attention. When i read that verse, i knew the book of mormon was true and that god had answered my prayer. For me, it was more than just feeling good, i felt sure. The gospel or the teachings of jesus christ has blessed me so much. Serving the lord at this stage of my life has been a challenge but also a wonderful learning experience. I love being a mormon because when the world wants me to be so different, i can use the things that i've learned and feel confident enough to stand up for what i believe in and not give in to worldly pressure.

How I live my faith

There is a scripture that i love that says " faith without works is dead". We can believe in something but if we never act, then nothing will change. Everything that i learn about the teachings of jesus christ, i try to apply. Whether its praying to god, or reading scriptures, or going to church. All these things and more are what god expects us, his children, to do in order to live with him again. As a missionary, i am a representative of the lord jesus christ and as such my commission is to do what he would do. Now i'm nowhere near perfect, but i try my best. I firmly believe that it is in the application of doctrine that helps us to transform into the men and women that god wants us to be. As a missionary, not only do i get to learn how i can live my faith better but i also get the privilege of helping others learn how they can find the truth for themselves and then act upon what they know to be true.
