Hi I'm Rachel

I'm now a college student. I'm silly yet organized and ambitious. I also happen to be a Mormon.

About Me

I am the oldest of three siblings. I can be spontaneous and adventurous but I enjoy being prepared and organized. I love crafting. I like to tell lame jokes and break out in song. I love Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and Star Wars. And I absolutely love the gospel of Jesus Christ. I was California born and raised but I have just recently moved to Utah where I will be attending BYU, majoring in Business, minoring in Communications, and having fun. Believe me, I never thought I would go to Utah (of all places) for school but here I am and I couldn't be more excited!

Why I am a Mormon

I have grown up in the Mormon church my whole life, but I still have a conversion story of my own. There comes a time when you can no longer rely on the faith of those around you. You have to know for yourself if what you are basically devoting your life to is true or not. Although the witness I have received of the truthfulness of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints was not one overwhelming moment, I have many small experiences over the course of my life that have helped me paint a full picture of God and his plan for me . I know, first and foremost, that there is a God. The simple fact that every human being innately feels that Right and Wrong exist is proof enough. He is not a mystical being that is detached from our lives here on earth. He is a truly the father of our souls. I know with all my heart that God loves each and every one of his children. He may not speak as we would expect Him to, but I have felt his love for me (like arms wrapped around me) in times when I needed it the most. I also know that there truly is a way for us to live with Him again and even to become like Him. I know that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, died for me. He felt every pain there is to feel and the only way back to live with my Father in Heaven is through Him. He has freed us from forever being tied down by sin. I know that God has provided a way for every family to be together forever. Marriage is not just a temporal union; it can be an eternal companionship. I know that God wants to communicate with us, and he does so on a broad scale through prophets. They are inspired by the Holy Spirit to teach us the words God would speak to us. Most importantly, I know the Book of Mormon clarifies the Bible and testifies of Christ in a way that no other book can. It has brought me closer to my Heavenly Father and continues to inspire my life.

How I live my faith

I only realize how much "church stuff" I do when I have to tell someone about it (and keep in mind, this is all voluntary). I spend 3-hours learning about the gospel on Sundays, then sometimes I have extra meetings about planning events for the youth in my area, sometimes I go to listen to speakers at night, and sometimes I go to a class that teaches us how to share the gospel. During the normal school year, I would attend bible study class every morning 5:45-6:45am before school. On Monday nights my family would try to have family nights and have a lesson.Tuesday nights were reserved for youth group activities. Every couple of months, on Saturday mornings, my family would go to clean the building we meet in. Every month, we meet with everyone we go to church with and have an activity (sometimes a community service event). Every six months, I would attend a 3 or 4 day youth conference. Needless to say, there is always something to do.

What does Mormonism teach regarding baptism?

Baptism is a physical symbol of being washed clean of sin and it is also a physical act that represents our commitment to God. We believe that "faith without works is dead" (James 2:20) and so in addition to having faith in Jesus Christ and believing in the Atonement, you must be baptized to promise God that you beliefs will match your actions.
