Hi I'm Ashley Young

I live in the Ozarks, I love music and art, I'm a mom, I'm a writer, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I started college when I was 16, and finished my associate degree before being a missionary for 18 months in Utah. Now, I'm married to the love of my life and we have our first baby. I spend my days as a stay-at-home mom, taking care of him and our home, while I try to pursue my interest in music and work on plans for my husband and I to start our own business.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was little, I went to church with my parents, but when I was a teenager, I decided to ask God for myself if it was true. I prayed and asked God if all the things I had learned about church and the prophet Joseph Smith were true, if the Book of Mormon was true, and if it was scripture, and if this was really His church. I know God answered me that day, because it was very hot, and I felt this very soft, but powerful, feeling of peace, and calm, and coolness come over me from head to toe, and I felt it really deeply in my heart. I know that God was listening, and was telling me that it was true, because I could feel it, and I could hear Him answering. Now, I get those same feelings of calmness and peace like I felt that day, when I read the scriptures, or pray, or take the sacrament. As long as I do things to remember the Savior, and remember God, I can remember that He answered my prayer, and it gives me the strength and reminders I need to keep going, and keep learning and progressing in the way that He wants me to.

How I live my faith

Because I'm a stay-at-home mom, I show my faith a lot at home. I study and pray every morning so that I can teach my son about the Savior. I teach him about the Atonement, and how to pray and listen for answers from God. I read him stories from the scriptures, and explain how God is helping our family today too. I try to keep our home clean and organized so that the Spirit can be comfortable here, and so that we can focus better on Christ and spending time together as a family. At least once a month, we take a six hour long road trip to the temple and back, where we worship The Lord and learn about His plan for us. People tell me it is a long drive, but I love spending that time with my family and with the Lord. I always feel stronger, more relaxed, more peaceful, and happier after going to the temple. It helps me to stay focused on what's important in life and helps me feel closer to the Savior and to Heavenly Father.

Why do Mormon missionaries proselyte?

Ashley Young
I became a proselyting missionary because I wanted to help people, and I wanted to serve God and show Him that I was grateful for the blessings I had. I felt like everything good I ever had came from living the Gospel, and I knew there had to be other people out there who wanted those blessings too. I especially wanted to teach about the Atonement, and let people know they can always be forgiven and that there is always hope, and about eternal families, because that was a blessing that was so important to me too. The Savior taught His apostles and His disciples to go out and teach the Gospel, and I felt like by doing that He would be proud of me for obeying and helping others, and I would learn to be more like Him and become a better person as well. Does The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints endorse political parties?

Ashley Young
No. But, the Church does have firm stances on issues of morality (such as abortion, homosexuality, refugees, drug usage, etc.), and encourages everyone to live and promote what they believe is right according to God's commandments. Show more Show less
