Hi I'm Shelby John Thayne

I grew up in a small town in Altamont, UT. I am a country kid, and I am Mormon

About Me

I went to college for a year. I studied political science, history, and agriculture. Weird combo right? I enjoy all kinds of things. I really enjoy church, politics, hunting, sports (especially football) and I have just started to like rodeo where in High School I wasn't a big fan. I have learned to enjoy working hard. I enjoy God's great creation. It is a beautiful place we live on full of wonderful people. I really enjoy movies especially ones based on historical events. I love history and seeing how our Father's hand has shaped the nations. I am a jack of quite a few trades and master of none.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I grew up as a Mormon. I was baptized at eight. However I was never converted to it till twelve. I was never a "Saint" until then. I never had definite knowledge for my self that this is God's Church or His Kingdom till I read pondered and prayed about the Book of Mormon. It was work but it was worth it. I do so with a sincere heart. I pondered the truths it taught, and God answered my humble prayer. He will answer everyone's humble prayer.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by practicing it. "Faith without works is dead." I enjoy being an active participant in my local congregation and serving in my assigned spot with in the congregation. I have grown to know Christ more as I rely on Him. My knowledge grows with every meeting my fellow Saints and I meet. I enjoy serving others. I have worked as a teacher of a Sunday School Class, a local missionary- not the one that knocks on your door- and as a leader in some of my youth groups growing up.

Why did your church previously practice plural marriage (polygamy)?

Shelby John Thayne
Plural marriage was practiced in the Church because the Lord commanded. We all want to follow the commandments. So some of the early Saints did under regulation of the Church. The Lord has since commanded to no longer practice polygamy. Show more Show less

Why are only some Mormons allowed into temples? Is there something secret going on in Mormon Temples? What goes on in Mormon Temples?

Shelby John Thayne
The blessing found in the temples are great blessings. As someone who has been through the temple I have seen the amazing blessing that lie ahead. Nothing happens in secrecy. What happens there is holy and sacred. It is another way for our Lord to bless us. Part of the definition of holy is separation from the wicked. Now are we saying we are only righteous group of people on the earth. No. We invite all to come to the temple. We don't restrict we ask people to make themselves holy and sacred. To separate ourselves from worldly thoughts actions and deeds. Show more Show less
