Hi I'm Jared

I'm a pilot and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a pilot by trade. My hobbies are family history (genealogy), woodworking, welding, motorcycle riding, and, of course, flying. As with most pilots, flying is my second most favorite thing in the world to do.

Why I am a Mormon

Although I grew up in the Church and was therefore exposed to it all my life, there came a time when I had to ask myself, "Is it really true, or is it just a lot of hooey?" My college training as a critical thinker and my naturally sceptical mind drove me to research the literature, both for and against the Church. I found that much of what was written about the Church (both for and against) was flawed. It was illogical, imprecise, contained circular logic, or was just plain lies. Dispensing with all that dreck, I then reviewed the remaining works. There I found many points (again, both for and against) that were cogent and even compelling, but not conclusive. The evidence could easily point either way. I studied this out in my mind and the determinate for me was, "Which way do I want to be the truth?" I decided that philosophically, I wanted the Church to be true. Then I asked God in prayer if my decision that the Church should be true was the right one. After more prayer and fasting and study, I received a spiritual confirmation (revelation, if you like) that my decision was the right one.

How I live my faith

I try to do the best I can and be the best I can. Some days I succeed and some days I don't. But that's OK. The important thing is to keep trying. I'm best at doing administrative things, so in my Ward, I currently oversee the membership records, keeping them current, etc. I also interpret for the Deaf in the area when they come to our Ward meetings.
