Hi I'm Jason.

I'm an English Teacher in Texas. I mostly work with Latino and Black American students, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I've been married for almost fifteen years to an awesome woman who is also my best friend. I have four beautiful daughters who mean the world to me. I love to spend time with them, although it makes me crazy if I don't get away and have some alone-time, regularly. I'm kind of a nerd. I like video games and television. I especially like to make board games - which is where my real nerdiness shines. I go into Adobe Photoshop and fine-tune the designs as well as spend hours creating miniatures that go to the games. Lately, I've given that all a break, and I have tried to focus on writing a book, of which I have several hundred pages. It's nerdy too, because it's about vampires and World War II. As a school teacher, I am involved a little in the lives of my students, too. I spend a lot of my energy trying to develop creative lessons for them.

Why I am a Mormon

I have experienced through heartfelt prayer, real and powerful answers from heaven. I know that my Savior, Jesus Christ, is aware of my needs and that He and my Heavenly Father care for me. I can feel that I am part of a greater family from Heaven. The doctrines of Christ are what pull me to this church the most - I know that my spirit has family, and that I am a Child of God. I know that God the Father and His Son have enacted a plan to save me from my sins if I will heed the scriptures and His appointed prophets, and if I repent when I fall short. I know that we must follow the Savior into the waters of baptism and be obedient - for He was perfect, and if He had need of baptism - then I know I am obligated as well, if I'm being honest with myself. I believe in prophets. I believe in angels. I believe in the Holy Ghost, and know that He has witnessed to my heart of the divinity of then Lord Jesus Christ and of the divinity of His plan to save mankind from death and from hell. I have been to many different churches in my life. While these were each nice experiences, I am compelled by the Spirit of God to the LDS church. Here, I have felt the Holy Ghost teach me that not only is the Bible true, but that it has a companion volume of scripture. The Book of Mormon is a powerful witness of Jesus Christ. These scriptures, the testimony of prophets, and the personal revelations I receive through personal prayer have brought me to the Gospel.

How I live my faith

I mostly work with the men in my congregation, helping to organize home appointments to the members of my church, specifically to share a gospel message each month and to insure that the physical needs of each family within the congregation are being met. I also get the opportunity to visit the homes of some of the families in the church. It is a rewarding experience to go do something that requires you to consider another's needs instead of your own because - let's face it - in today's world, serving others isn't always our focus. It helps me put my own problems in perspective when I see that others have problems, too, and especially when I see that by helping others, I often receive gainful insight as to how I can be happier in my own home.
