Hi I'm Jon

I love sports, I'm a chess player, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born in New Hampshire, but grew up in Utah. I've always loved sports, whether it's playing or watching. I started playing chess when I was 8 years old and fell in love with the game immediately. I have a national ranking and enjoy playing in tournaments whenever I have the chance. I'm a very competitive person. To me, chess is one of those games where It's all up to me and how much I've prepared. For an independent person like myself, it's perfect! I'm always up for a good laugh. Laughter is a gift from God, so I try to use it often. Maybe sometimes too often. I love to hang out with my amazing girlfriend and do pretty much anything together. I love my family, they've been a huge blessing in my life. After I've served my mission, I plan on going to Southern Utah University to study something (I'm not completely sure what I want to go into yet). My mission has already changed my life so much. I've never felt so blessed as I've helped to bring people closer to Jesus Christ. It's amazing how helping someone else to a better state of life has helped do the same for me.

Why I am a Mormon

I was baptized at the age of 8, like everyone who grows up in the Church. I believed in what I was taught because it made sense. I'm a very logical person, things have to click. The more I've studied the Gospel, the more I realize just how right it is. God loves all His children. And the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is the medium through which we can live the Gospel. It's fullness has been restored through a modern day prophet, Joseph Smith, and is currently led today by the Lord's chosen servant, Thomas S. Monson. I'm a member of this Church because to me, it simply makes sense :)

How I live my faith

I'm currently serving the Lord as a missionary in the Oklahoma Tulsa Mission

What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

Jon
The Word of Wisdom is a health code that God has revealed to us to help us take care of our bodies. There are 5 main things in the Word of Wisdom that God asks us not to partake of, and they are: tobacco, tea, coffee, alcohol, and illegal drugs. The majority of this commandment is actually a list of things for us TO partake of. Fruits, vegetables, regular exercise, etc. The Word of Wisdom is a benefit to us both physically and spiritually. With a healthy body and a clear mind, we were able to more easily hear and feel the Spirit of God. I have seen that personally in my own life. When I obey the Word of Wisdom, I feel more in tune with the Spirit and am able to feel more peace. It gives me strength to carry through the burdens of life. Show more Show less
