Hi I'm Houston

I've lived in Colorado for about ten years now. I love basketball baseball and the outdoors. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I enjoy many things outdoors mainly hiking, skiing, wakeboarding, and longboarding. My favorite sports alternate between basketball and baseball with football at a close third. Though recently I have a gained a true appreciation for the benefit of reading and how wonderful a good story can be, my favorite genre right now is country western novels. I have really enjoyed the hunger games series. Outside of these hobbies I enjoy spending as much time with my son James as often as I can he is truly a joy in my life. He keeps me focused on my goals and the long term picture.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints because the feeling I get when I ponder the Book of Mormon and other church doctrine is indescribable. It feels myself with so much joy that as I have tried to look for the same joy elsewhere I was only met with disappointment. Growing up in the church I have taken many of the teachings for granted and fell away for sometime. When the Lord came unto me in my deepest despair and showed me the love and joy that comes from the power of repentance. That repentance is not how I viewed it as a child and young adult, it is not being judged and feeling put down as I once thought the process had to be. Now that doesn't mean that the process is easy by any means as I have learned of the love expressed through the Atonement I was extremely sorrowful for all the wrong I had done. The breaking of my heart and my pride was the most difficult challenge I have ever faced. I know that the Lord accepts me for who I am and not what I have done that as long as I continue to try and grow closer to the Lord He will take care of my short comings.

How I live my faith

I am still fresh in my renewal in attendance to my ward but I have been reading my scriptures daily and praying as close to morning and night as I can. I find that when I do these simple things the Lord confirms to me the truthfulness of them through the spirit; that burning desire I receive that draws me closer to him. It makes me want to continue on the path and learn as much as I can take at any given time because I know that as long as I make a sincere effort He will make up for the rest. As I learn more about my Savior and the wonderful things He has done for me. I try to share his teachings in the simplest form I can find so that James will know of His love for him and that the Lord wants what is best for him. I know that the family is the most important part of our Heavenly Fathers plan that the more I make the effort to draw closer to my family and grow our relationship the Lord blesses us greatly for He knows that the closer we are to each other the harder it is for Satan to tempt us. I am so thankful for the knowledge the Church brings into my life and the wonderful people inside it that are amazing examples to me of standing up for what you believe in.
