Hi I'm Marilyn

I'm from Washington State. I was a Peace Corps volunteer in Malaysia. I am a retired elementary school counselor. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Home town: Toledo, WA Colleges attended: Brigham Young University (1 year), University of Washington (bachelors's degree in Political Science, University of Iowa (master's degree in education counseling). Career Pathway: Peace Corps volunteer in Malaysia, Full-time homemaker with 6 children, Substance Abuse Counselor in KY (1 year), middle school and elementary counselor for 18 years. Most difficult and rewarding job: Parenting!

Why I am a Mormon

My parents joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when I was 5 years old, so I grew up in the church. I stopped attending church for a period of time while in college. I did not find a great deal of happiness in following a different path, so I returned to full activity in the church. I married my high school sweetheart in the Los Angeles temple. By following the teachings of the gospel, I have found peace and purpose in life. The direction the gospel gives us and the strong values it teaches have provided a good foundation for our children. I have received a personal witness that I am a child of my Heavenly Father and He loves me!

How I live my faith

My husband and I were married for eternity in the Los Angeles temple. We have been grateful for the teachings and standards of the church which have helped us to raise our six children to be good, responsible adults. We now have 14 lovely grandchildren, which are a delight! I have served in many different "callings" (assignments) in the church. I am currently a nursery leader for children 18 months to 3 years old in our local unit (ward). My husband and I have volunteered to serve a mission for our church and have been assigned to the Singapore mission to work in the Perpetual Education Fund/ self-reliance center. We are excited to return to the area where we served in the Peace Corps and to serve the members there.
