Hi I'm John.

I grew up in Alaska and am an avid sports goer. I'm studying engineering and love learning. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a junior in college at BYU. I'm studying civil engineering and will hopefully go on to grad school and also obtain an MBA. I love sports, and my first word was even ball. My favorites to play are volleyball, soccer, and basketball, but I will try just about any and watch whatever is on ESPN. Growing up in Alaska has made me love hiking and being outdoors in the woods. There have been many times where my favorite moments in life have come at the top of mountain peaks or alone in the woods after a good and long run.

Why I am a Mormon

At first glance it may look like I'm a Mormon just because I was born into a Mormon family. This may be true at first, but there came a time in my life where I could no longer rely on what my parents and family members taught me. I needed to know for myself that what I was hearing was true. I don't remember the exact moment it happened, but all of a sudden I knew that my Heavenly Father loved me. I knew that He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to be my Savior. I knew that everything I had been taught in the church was true, and that a living prophet guided it. Because of this testimony I gained throughout life, I wanted others to share the peace and joy in which I felt everyday. As a 19 year old, I volunteered my services to teach other people what I knew to be true. I ended up going to Southern Chile, and this is where I truly learned the power that comes from knowing Heavenly Father's plan for each one of his children. I can never deny that testimony, and I strive everyday to become more like the Savior, by loving others and serving them each day.

How I live my faith

My favorite part about my faith is that I get the opportunity to either teach lessons or speak often in church. I love learning about the life of Jesus Christ, and love to read the accounts of past prophets in the scriptures. There have been many times where a recent event in my life has paralleled so closely to what I have been preparing a lesson or talk on that it has only strengthened my resolve to be a better person. I live my faith by the way I treat others, always trying to be an uplifting and inviting person. I used to be an extremely shy person, but through my faith I have found friends that I know will be there for me whenever I need them. The friendships that have developed through my faith have inspired me to be more outgoing and to enjoy the little moments in life we share with those around us.
