Anna Hoffman: twin, horses, missionary, Mormon.

Hi I'm Anna Hoffman

About Me

Hey, I'm Anna. I'm 19 years old and currently serving as a full-time missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Portland, Oregon. I am from a family of ten children, and my siblings are my best friends! My faith and my family are the most important things to me, and they are interconnected in every way. Although it is hard to be away from my family for 18 months, I am here on a mission because I want to share with other families the one thing that has glued my family together and made us as close as we are: the gospel of Jesus Christ. It is the most beautiful message in the world! And I KNOW it is true. I love life, and some of the things that make me the happiest are riding horses, writing in my journal, singing, playing piano, laughing, and almost any activity if it involves being outside. The world itself is a testament to me that we have a kind and loving God-a dark sky full of bright stars, a beautiful sunrise signaling a fresh start, trees changing color in the fall. I feel closest to Him when I am surrounded by His incredible creations. I know that He is real! I am an identical twin, I love to ride horses, I am a sister to nine, and I'm a mormon.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon simply because I know this church is true without a doubt. I was born into an amazing Latter Day Saint family and my parents have taught me through their examples that the church is true. As I have grown, I have gained my own testimony of its truthfulness as I have read the scriptures and prayed to know if this church and the scriptures are true. I am overwhelmed with gratitude for the gospel in my life, because the gospel truly IS my life. Everything in my life that I have been blessed with comes from my Heavenly Father and everything beautiful around me testifies that He lives and that He loves me with an unconditional, eternal love. I am so grateful for the Atonement in my life and for the prophets and leaders who help me stay on the right path and guide me to eternal happiness. I know that Joseph Smith really did see Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ in the sacred grove on a beautiful spring day, and I know that he did restore the true gospel onto the earth today. I am a Mormon because I know this is the true church and I know that by following Christ's example, I will find eternal, lasting happiness.

Personal Stories

Please explain the part prayer plays in your life?

At this time, in this big, ever-darkening world, it is easy to feel frightened and scared, lost and alone. Even I, with a large family of twelve, find myself with these feelings at times. However, knowing that I have a Heavenly King, the greatest and most powerful and most loving King of all, and knowing that I am His child helps me feel stronger and gives me strength to continue on. Furthermore, I have the knowledge that my Heavenly Father loves each us with a pure, unconditional, eternal love. Because He loves us, He has promised us that if we pray earnestly to Him and pour out our hearts through prayer, then He will always be there for us, He will always answer our prayers, and He will never leave us alone. I have seen this promise work miracles in my life. Prayer plays such a vital role in my life. It is a way of communicating to my Father and getting to know Him. It is a way of showing gratitude to Him for all of the many things He has given me. It is a way to feel comfort and peace when I need it or to ask questions and get answers, no matter how small or big they may be. Countless times in my life, I have prayed in faith and seen my prayers answered, whether it be a small insignificant matter or a life-changing decision. Prayer helps me feel of my Father's love for me and gives me strength when I need it the most. One of my favorite quotes is by President Gordon B. Hinckley, and it states, "If life gets too hard to stand, kneel." Kneeling in prayer and sincerely praying and talking to my Father is a strength and a lifeline to me. I have found that I can pray wherever I may be, whether it's at school or in the car or just at my house, but wherever I may be, He is there and He is really listening. I am so grateful for the amazing power of prayer and all that it does for me in my life.

How I live my faith

How do I live my faith? For the next eighteen months of my life, I will live my faith by sharing it! As a missionary, I am a full-time representative of Jesus Christ and I am aware that everything I do reflects Him since I wear His name next to mine on a badge every day. I often think to myself about what the Savior would do and do my best to follow in His footsteps. I do my best to become a little bit better every day and spread the love that I have felt from my Savior to the whole world, and with each step I take, I feel my faith grow a little stronger.
