Hi I'm Carolyn

I'm a student at Brigham Young University. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a freshman at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. I grew up in Palmyra, New York. My father was born into the LDS church, but my mom converted at the age of seventeen. They raised my five siblings and I in the church, and my sister is currently serving a mission in the Portugal Lisbon mission!

Why I am a Mormon

I've always been a Mormon, and I am so glad that my parents raised me in this church. In my family (and like many others), the present that my parents give on a child's eighth birthday is their own set of scriptures. I couldn't wait to see what color my parents had picked out, which scripture case they had bought me, and if my name was printed on it in pretty script. As excited as I was, at age eight, to receive the green book with the matching green flowered case, I learned later that my parents put more thought into this present than the color. I know now that they wanted to give me the something that had changed their lives, and hopefully would change mine. I love this church with all my heart, and I know that it is true and the Gospel really is the best gift you could ever give someone.

How I live my faith

Now that I am at BYU, I have less pressure from the adversary. In high school, I was exposed to lifestyles I didn't care for. I just smiled and tried to explain why I didn't believe in whatever activity everyone else was participating in. It was strange at first to be in an environment where everyone had the same values, but it was nice. Different but relieving. I go to church every Sunday, take religion classes, and have much more fun being around people that believe the same things.

Why is it important for us to take care of our bodies? Why are our bodies called temples of God in the Bible?

Our body is a "temple" because it is the temporary residence of our eternal spirit. We need to take care of our bodies, because what affects our mortal body will also affect our immortal spirit. Just as we would never graffitti the temple, we should not have tattoos or multiple piercings, and refrain from drugs or foods that could affect our spirits adversely. Show more Show less
