Hi I'm Andy Mierins

I was born in New Jersey, grew up in New Hampshire and live in Nevada. I work as a Family Court Hearing Master and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the parent of two boys, both of which were adopted. One of our children has a autism spectrum disorder. I worked as an attorney for a Public Defender's office in a rural county, but was recently appointed the Family Court Hearing Master in my Judicial District. I also teach at a local community college in the Social Sciences Department. I enjoy gardening, reading and cooking and mostly spending time with my family.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in New England in a Protestant religion, which my family was quite involved. I was quite active in our church, but deep down inside I had several questions which were unanswered by our minister. I was introduced to the restored gospel of Jesus Christ while a junior in college. The first time I opened and read the Book of Mormon I knew it was scripture. I began meeting with the full time missionaries in June and after our first meeting I knew I found what I had been searching. The nagging questions I had as a teenager were answered. I was privileged to serve as a full time missionary a year later and have never regretted my decision. I know Jesus is the Christ and it is only through the Atonement can we find the peace and support we need to endure through this existence. He is my Redeemer.

How I live my faith

A question I am frequently asked is how I can defend people accused of serious and sometimes violent crimes. My answer usually centers around the great opportunity each client offers to influence for good. I have the opportunity each day to share with people who are seeking for a different way to live their lives principles which can bring peace to their lives. Ultimately, I hope to offer to others the same mercy Jesus Christ offers me when the day comes that I am judged for my many errors. I enjoy serving and am quite active in my community. One of the great lessons I have learned through the gospel is the key to happiness is dedicating yourself to serving others. I serve as the President of the Board of Directors for a local social services organization dedicated to supporting and promoting strong families. I also serve on the Board of Directors for a statewide organization that provides legal representation to low income persons involved in civil litigation. I have served in various capacities in church, beginning with service as a full time missionary for two years in the western part of the United States. I have worked with children, youth and adults and had the privilege to teach high school and college students religion classes. I currently work with the adults in our congregation. I enjoy the opportunity I have to visit members of our congregation each month.
