Hi I'm Mike Gillis

I'm a Mormon. My wife and I raised four children in the church. It is a big part of my life.

About Me

Professionally I am a real estate broker/ salesman for forty four years. Career wise I’ve done land development and was a principle in a building & investment company. I served on a board of directors for a small Pennsylvania Savings bank. I have worked as a bank teller and information center manager at a regional bank known as the Philadelphia Savings Fund Society prior to me becoming a realtor. I served in the Navy as an aviation ordinance men from 1966 to 1972 while stationed as a reservist at NAS Willow Grove in Penna. I love to play golf but I’m not very good at it. So I have to keep practicing as much as I can to get better. My mother was a good cook. I try to cook like her but still haven’t come close to her extraordinary talent. So I keep trying to cook good comfort food and have fun experimenting on recipes.

Why I am a Mormon

I would like to share the story of how I was introduced to the Lord’s church and why I joined. I was raised in the Catholic faith by my parents and went to Catholic school in Doylestown Pa. I witnessed many good people at this church. My parents were very active at church. My parents had all of their four children attend some Catholic school as part of their religious education. They wanted all of their children to believe in God and continue to worship Him. Many years later after high school and some college my wife and I lived in Lansdale Pennsylvania. We had just started having our first children. It was at this time while living at Brookside Manor apartments the missionaries from the Church Of Jesus Christ Of latter Day Saints knocked on our door. They were referred to us by my sister Janet who married a member in California. She converted and married a member and wanted me to learn about the church. The missionary’s message touched my heart right away and I could feel the spirit telling me their message was sent from God. They gave me a copy of the book of Mormon and challenged me to read it and pray for confirmation that it was a true record from God. Just after reading just a few pages of this great book I did get a confirmation that this book was from God and true. I knew without any doubt the Lord’s church was restored to the earth. The spirit testified to me it was true. I have finally found answers to so many questions by reading the Book of Mormon and going to church every week. Each week I learn a little bit more on how to be a better person using Jesus Christ as my example and teacher. I’ve developed a greater love for my fellow man and I have a greater understanding of the scriptures and the purpose of our lives. The Book of Mormon and the Bible both testify of Christ and of his role as our Savior and Redeemer. I love this church and testify to you it is the true church of God.

How I live my faith

I have been active in my church over thirty four years now and currently a bishop in the Souderton Ward in Pennsylvania. The Lord's church is a big part of my life. This church amazes me and how it has changed my life. After getting a testimony that the church is true and being baptized, I recognized I didn’t know very much. However, each day, each week and each year I learned more about the Lord’s doctrine and His way of doing things. The Lord calls you by revelation from His appointed leader to different positions in the church to help you grow in understanding of gospel principles. It's clear after you have been called to a new position you don’t know how the do the assignment. But you learn you must rely on Him for help. I have discovered when I try to do any assignment by myself I will fail. Only by acting on faith, asking in prayer for help and then receiving personal revelation, He teaches you how to accomplish the new assignment extended. These church callings help you learn the gospel, become a better person and become Christlike. Each week going to church you get to be schooled in the distinctions of the gospel. Then you are challenged to practice those principles in the world to finish your understanding and gain knowledge. Through my participation and personal study of the scriptures it has transformed my life for the better. The doctrine of the gospel has improved my life, my relationship to my wife, my children and all my relationships in the world. I’m forever grateful for my Savior Jesus Christ introducing me to His restore church here in the latter days. He has helped me live a more fulfilled and purposeful life.
