Hi I'm Mathew

I was born in California. I love tennis, snowboarding and singing, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Well I was born in California in the High desert area. I grew up hunting lizards with my brothers. Every day we would get home from school, drop off our stuff and then go chase some lizards down with our dog. Those were some good times. I was actually surprised when I found out that not everyone did that growing up! It is funny to think back now on things I did when I was little. Basically I love to snowboard and play tennis. I have done some singing in my life. I enjoy a good paintball game. I don't like to brag but I wasn't too bad when I was in high school. Most recently I have learned how to ride bullet bikes. That is incredible fun! It is a little too dangerous for my taste so I don't think I will buy one but I definitely do a good ride.

Why I am a Mormon

Basically the short answer is when I was a teenager, I really wanted to know. I mean I knew I felt good going to church but I mean who doesn't? I don't know of one church that will say, "go out and lie to everyone and bring a gun just in case someone wrongs you." I wanted to know if this was the real deal, if living my life according to what the Prophet in our day taught and if he was even a real prophet. In the Bible Matthew 7: 20 is says, "by their fruits ye shall know them." It also says in the Bible "knock and ye shall receive, ask and it shall be given unto you." I believed in these scriptures and decided to find out for myself. During a period of about a month, in my search I felt closer to God than I had ever felt before. I felt the Holy Ghost talk to me in those times ensuring me that I was in fact on the path back to God. Besides that and other similar experiences to that, I have seen how peoples lives have changed as they have embraced the teachings from God through His modern day prophets. Light fills their lives, they are filled with hope, they become charitable, humble and loving. But to me, the thing that keeps me keepin' on is how the church has changed my life. I have felt my nature changed. I have truly felt the power that comes from the sacrifice by Jesus Christ come into my life and cleanse me. I know we can be forgiven of our sins and put our mistakes behind us. This Church is amazing. If there really is a prophet on the earth telling us what God wants us to hear, wouldn't that be incredible? If you believe that God knows all things and that you can communicate with Him through prayer, ask Him. He will know if that is true or not and He loves you enough to tell you. I know because I have tried it.

How I live my faith

One thing I have done a lot is I am usually in charge of a couple people... that being families or specific individuals. And by being in charge I mean I am there to help them if they every have any physical, emotional or spiritual needs. I go usually with someone assigned to me as a partner over to their house at least once a month with an inspirational message. We then talk to them and see if there is anything we can do for them. It has been a great experience for me doing this. I have made some good friends doing this and have had some great opportunities to help those in need. I have had the opportunity to go to Brazil and live there for two years helping teach others about what we believe, help people drop habits of smoking, drinking, looking at pornography. I have been there to try to help people with their marriages helping them see how making Christ the center of their marriage would have incredible potential to heal and to help. Basically the mission of the church is to help all those around them and show by example how to follow Christ. I have had the privilege to this is many different capacities all with the same goal...bring others to Christ.
