Hi I'm Michael

I'm a son, a brother, a friend, a Watkins, and I am a Mormon.

About Me

I love spending time with my family! I am one of nine children and my parents and siblings are some of my closest friends (perks of a big fam). I grew up in Glendora California, spent 2 years on a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in beautiful Tampa Florida, and now spend my time either studying Bioinformatics at Brigham Young University in Provo Utah, or hanging with the parentals and younger sibs at home in Laie Hawaii.

Why I am a Mormon

I was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when I was 8 years old because I was born into an LDS family. I am STILL a Mormon because I believe it is Christ's original Church restored back onto the earth through the boy prophet Joseph Smith. If that seems odd to you then please look up who Joseph is! Look up what an apostasy is and why thousands of Churches sprang up after the death of Christ and His apostles when in the New Testament they only ever organized one Church, The Church of Jesus Christ! This website explains all of these things. Why would Christ need a thousand separate Churches? Why not one true Church? This knowledge and understanding didn't come because my parents forced the Gospel down my throat; rather, it has come because I have studied and asked God over and over if this is His true Church. He does answer prayers. Everything that has come from my membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has been positive and has blessed me in my life.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying everyday to do what Christ would do if He were in my shoes. I have a firm belief in Jesus Christ and I really do believe that anything good in life comes from Him as we try to follow His example the best that we can. Trying to follow Jesus makes you turn outward and look to help others instead of turning inward to just help yourself. We all have goals, hopes, and dreams of what we want in life. My faith helps me to find those things. It helps me slowly become the man that I know I should be. The great part is that it only comes if you're not doing it with yourself in mind, but others. It's the daily things mostly, helping out a friend, smiling and saying hello to someone, telling someone that you love and care about them, that bring the most joy that I've felt. That's how He builds us, one moment at a time. One act of service at a time. It's how He lived; it's how I strive to live.

Who wrote the Book of Mormon?

Michael
The Book of Mormon is a record of people that lived thousands of years ago in the ancient Americas. They wrote it. They used a form of Egyptian (the language they spoke) and carved their experiences and teachings onto plates of gold (because they didn't have paper way back then in the Americas). These Gold Plates containing their experiences were passed down, and added to, throughout many generations. They were abridged and condensed into a single record by a prophet historian named Mormon and his son Moroni. Before Moroni died he buried the record in a hill. He was the one that included the promise that anyone who reads with an open heart and mind will recieve a witness that it is true. Thousands of years later, in the 1800's, a boy named Joseph Smith was directed to the same hill and he was called by God to translate the plates from reformed Egyptian into English. He had the schooling equivalent of a 4th grader. He was able to do this only through the power of God. His english translation is what we know today as The Book of Mormon. Joseph did not write it, he translated the record into english. It was written by prophets and men called by God. The promise is true. Read and pray and ask for yourself! Show more Show less
