Hi I'm Larry

I have traveled around the world. I'm a husband and father and ENT surgeon who repairs cleft lips and palates. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the second of 5 children. My mother grew up LDS but my father is a convert. They have been great examples to me throughout my life and are true examples of service and obedience. We moved around a bit. I made many lasting friendships and enjoyed scouting. I graduated from high school in Arizona and attended Brigham Young University. After my first year of college I decided to serve God and dedicated 2 years for sharing the gospel in Colombia. What an amazing experience full of service and love! After my mission, I had another amazing opportunity to study abroad in Jerusalem. What an amazing land! I cherish those memories and have a special place in my heart for all the people living in that sacred land. At the end of college, I met Holly and got married in the temple. We now have 3 beautiful children. What a strength she has been to me. And how amazing it is to be a father of such amazing children. I went to medical school in Arizona and pursued a residency in ENT which brought me to Arkansas. I discovered a passion for people born with clefts. These surgeries are amazing. I have traveled to China and Guatemala to operate which I plan on continuing throughout my life. I really enjoy reading (particularly Fantasy novels), watching movies (I am an avid Star Wars fan), and playing soccer and volleyball, and outdoors things. I enjoy house projects usually. Most of all, I love being with my family and serving My Savior and others.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born to parents who raised me in the knowledge of my Heavenly Father, my Savior Jesus Christ and their plan for us. I was taught about the importance of prophets and have always recognized the importance of having a prophet to guide us in the Lord's way. With daily scripture study and family and personal prayers, I gained a strong testimony of God and Christ and knew of their love for me and all man. I came to recognize that their love is what brought about the restoration of Christ's church through Joseph Smith. I came to understand that Joseph Smith was a prophet similar to Moses, Abraham, Peter and the others found in the Bible. He had an amazing faith that lead him to search out God and gave him the courage to do some amazing things. To never deny your testimony of such amazing things (seeing God and Jesus, translating golden plates to the Book of Mormon, receiving many revelations) despite intense persecution and hatred. He knew the importance of the message and fortunately so many others were also able to also feel the spirit touch their hearts and follow Christ. I admire him and all those who helped us have these precious truths with us today. My testimony grew immensely while serving my mission in Colombia. It was truly special to share such amazing truths with so many people and witness the changes that took place in their lives as they felt the Holy Ghost enter their hearts and testify of the truth of the gospel. I know that God has a plan for us. That he has a path that is straight and narrow. And that by following that path, we will find eternal happiness. There are many great teachings out there and so many amazing people not of our same faith but who follow God in the way they know and do some amazing things. I believe that God loves us all the same. I also believe that He wants us all to return to Him but that we must follow His path as He has revealed it to us in order to receive the fullness of His blessings.

How I live my faith

Currently, I am a counselor in the Elder's Quorum which is an organization of men who together provide service in the church and community. I have served as a teacher many times to all ages from the nursery, the youth and adults both here in the United States as well as in Colombia and Israel. Sine the age of 14, I have served as a hometeacher where I visited with my companion (my father at first and then many since) multiple families in our church group providing them with spiritual nourishment and physical support as needed. This has been an immense blessing to me as it has taught me the joys of helping others and strengthened my own testimony of God and His gospel and His love for all of us. I have enjoyed participating in service projects ranging from disaster clean ups to yard maintenance for the elderly.
