Hi I'm Russ Tillett

I'm a Mormon, a husband, and the father of 3 children. I am an American currently living and working in Germany.

About Me

I am the 4th child of 8 and I have 1 brother and 6 sisters. I grew up living all over the western United States and moved frequently. I graduated from high school in California and then joined the US Marine Corps less than one year later. I was discharged from the Marines after 4 years and then moved to Wyoming where I worked on my brother-in-law's dairy farm. I then served a mission in Indiana, which I now consider to be one of the greatest states in the nation. After my mission I began my college education and studied accounting, economics, and finally business administration. While in college I met and fell madly in love with the woman of my dreams (she's a ginger). We were married in the Idaho Falls temple more than 20 years ago now and we are still madly in love. We have three children; a boy, a girl, and a boy. Two of them were born while we were still in college. After college we moved to the east coast and then, eventually, bought a home. After about 8 years there, I was offered a position in Germany where I have lived ever since. I enjoy travel, Roman History, racquetball, Legos, and video games. I do my very best, though, to put family first, God next, and everything else I like after.

Why I am a Mormon

Much of my father's and my mother's ancestry have been associated with the LDS church for generations. My parents were and are faithful members and did their best to raise me in accordance with the principles of their faith. As a young adult, I questioned my parents' faith as so many do. I found my own faith, though, as I studied the Book of Mormon and prayed to know if it was true. As I learned the value and truthfullness of the Book of Mormon, I also came to believe that Joseph Smith was indeed a prophet of God and that he had restored the Gospel of Jesus Christ. In all of this I came to an understanding that God is real, that He loves me, and is willing to guide me personally. What He has guided me to through Joseph Smith, the Book of Mormon, and the principles of the Restored Gospel is the knowledge that Jesus Christ suffered, died, and was resurrected for me. I have found faith in Jesus Christ and therefore have the hope and the expectation that I can be forgiven of my sins, improve myself day by day, and live with my family forever. At those times in my life when I have done my best to live the principles of the Restored Gospel I have found life to be richer, happier, and more satisfying. In those moments of loss, trial, or heartache, I have found comfort in the principles of the Gospel. In my faith, then, I have found hope, happiness, and comfort. What more could I reasonably want?

How I live my faith

I live my faith by the choices that I make. In my heart I believe that Christ can and will change me for the better if I let him and I let him by making good choices and by repenting when I make mistakes. Regular worship, prayer, and scripture study are a part of my life because of my faith in Christ. I also believe that my attitudes toward my spouse and children need to be a reflection of my faith and as such, my devotion to my family is an aspect of my faith. Oh, and in addition I do my best to support the church and our local congregation through participation and service.
