Hi I'm Mary Louise

I love to sing, read, and travel. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm currently serving a mission in Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine. Before I began my mission, I was a student at BYU. When I return, I hope to continue studying Political Science and Russian. I love traveling everywhere and experiencing as many cultures as possible. One of my goals is to visit every continent (except Antarctica) and at least 30 countries. I absolutely love to sing, read, and hike wherever I can. My life is pretty basic, but I have a firm faith in my Savior, Jesus Christ, and I love being a part of His mission.

Why I am a Mormon

I have a firm belief in the gospel of Jesus Christ, and am a member of His church, because I have felt of His love and received His counsel in my life. Through studying the scriptures and struggling as I've tried to work through weaknesses, I've learned so much about the love the Savior has for each and every one of us. I do know that if we work hard and try to become as perfect as possible, the Lord will make up what we lack. He is there to guide us and carry us through any hard times we may face. By being a member of this church, I have also learned so much about the importance of loving others as Christ loves each of us. When I try and apply the things I've read, or follow the Christlike examples of others around me, I feel such a love and closer connection to my Savior. There isn't anything I want more than to prove to my Savior that I remember Him through my actions and my beliefs. Despite challenges and trials that are constantly crossing my path in life, I can trust in the Lord that my faith and character will be strengthened through the struggle. I love knowing that whenever I need comfort, or someone to listen and commiserate with me, I always have a best friend, waiting for me to cleave to Him and depend on His eternal love and perfect advice.

How I live my faith

Currently I live my faith by striving to be the best missionary I can. It's not always easy, and learning a new language is not simple, but I know that I can do all things through the Lord. I strive to be an example to all of those around me. When I worked in an Air Force base for a few months, I didn't work with any members of the same faith. I was able to show my coworkers by the way I acted and the way I lived that I had strong values. Many of them started asking questions the first week I began to work - and by the end, I had spent a lot of time in religious discussions because they noticed I didn't drink, or that I didn't want to work on Sunday, or that I didn't enjoy listening to music that swore. Throughout my life, I have tried my hardest to not simply go through a checklist: go to church, read a chapter in the scriptures each night, say a quick prayer before bed, etc. I've worked hard to actually believe and love the way I live, and to want to do all those things I listed and more. As a result, I have had many opportunities to spread Christ's teachings and show how I can be happy through living them. My mission is another example of how I show Christ that I love him and that I am willing to live by His commandments.
