Hi I'm Doug Ladle

I am passionate about families and family history. I have 32 grandchildren and a lot of amazing ancestors. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I was a University Professor for 25 years and then I retired in 2009 to spend my time teaching others about family history and discovering my own roots. I love to read fiction, non-fiction, and the newspaper. My wife and I have 6 married children and 32 grandchildren. I have written histories about my ancestors, taught in classes and conferences about family history, and created a fun family history game that creates magical moments around the kitchen table.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I have learned for myself that this is the Church of Jesus Christ. I have had answers to my prayers and have studied the teachings of the Church. The Holy Spirit has given me inspiration to help me know that Joseph Smith was a true prophet, that the priesthood of God has been restored, and that living the teachings of Jesus Christ can bring happiness and peace to me and my family. Even though I have been a member all of my life, each day has been a new day of conversion for me as I continually learn more and more truths of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I continue to receive answers to my prayers and the witness of the Holy Ghost that my life is in accordance with Christ's teachings. I have faith that living my religion will give me peace in this life and eternal life in the world to come.

How I live my faith

Over my lifetime I have loved serving in many church positions. Over my lifetime, I have been the leader of large congregations and a family friend to everybody in our neighborhood. As an active member of our Church, we love to attend and serve in the Temple near our home. My wife and I lived in South Africa and Namibia for 18 months where we taught the Gospel of Jesus Christ to many wonderful people. We also helped strengthen the Church members through our visits, teachings, and love. We are now living in Scotland for 18 months where we teach families and others about the joys of family history. We teach them how to find records of their ancestors and how to load these records onto the internet so that others in their family throughout the world can collaborate. We love the people of Scotland because they love their families.
